The multiple player (4 disc) is not working and shows disc error. The single CD drive is OK with both music & satnav.
I had this problem with my last Omega & Radio Solutions in Luton fitted new drives but they say parts are no longer available and suggest I look for an entire working second hand unit (NCDC2013) plus its code & fit that.
Is that the way forward? Anyone got one?
-
That is the only solution.
I had bundles of them, but lost them in the garage, single handedly wiping out the worlds supply ;D
I have a handful left, but they are not for sale, they are for use for spares for mine.
Finding good units with working lasers now is getting difficult, as the explosion in CDRs a few years ago, means most of these units have had a hard life. Poorly burned CDRs wreck these units. Even well burned CDRs, done with quality media, at slow speed, on a good writer, do these units no favours.

Is the required lasor not used in other GM heads?

Not quite :-X

Surely a working CDC3 would suffice as opposed to a complete HU ???

Ah, sorry, I thought that was what the OP meant :-[
OP - what you need, if you can find one, is a CDC3, either as a standalone unit or as part of a NCDC, CCR2006, CCRT2008 etc, *but* you must use your original vertical board in it.
-
My point earlier is there are not many CDC3s (either standalone or as part of a double din unit) that haven't had a hard life...
-
Point taken gentlemen but has anyone got it/them they would care to part with?

Got a working CDC3 but it`s part & parcel of a CCR2006

Is this a job I can do myself (with my five thumbs)? Is the CD drive plug-in, as opposed to soldered? If the NCDC2013 unit is divorced/factory reset does the car just assume its identity or is a code required? Does just putting in the CDC3 drive require a code reset? As you might have surmised I am not teccy at all.
;D

Thank you RobG for your info & vote of confidence. I owe you a pint. Now how many times have I said that?
:D
-
Takes me about 10 minutes to remove HU, strip & re-fit a CDC3, and slot back in the car so you shouldn`t have much of a problem once you`ve sourced a known good one
-
Well remind me when we meet that I do owe you that pint! I shall report later.

Its quite an easy task, just ensure (as per guide) to remove the nuts from rear and all 4 screws from front before separating. The vertical board that needs to be swapped is quite fiddly the first time you do it.
Not sure where in Beds you are, but I'm on Bucks/Northants/Oxon border if you need a hand.

That is a very kind offer. Thanks. I assume the guide referred to is here on the Forum.

Guide is here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90608.0

Thanks. Bedtime reading.

Excellent guide.
Alternatively, if I get a complete working NCDC 2013 unit which has been 'divorced'/returned to factory settings, could I not just substitute it for my own unit? Would it assume my code?

That's more complex.
Your's would have to be depaired (obviously the replacement needs to be depaired (most aren't)), then all the bits you are going to use al have to be paired together.
-
Eventually got round to doing this a la guide above (very useful). Took me most of the morning. ;D
We'll see if it works. :y
ps. Managed to lose one of the little fascia screws (T9?) :'( The ones that are at each corner of the head unit & cover the holes.
Anyone got any spares from a dead unit?

It works! Result! :y I can listen to Johnny Winter & Pink Floyd again now. 8)
Thanks for the advice. :y
-
An excellent result :y
-
Is that ribbon, as seen resting under the upper half, the one that is tapped into to connect an external aux input :-\
-
I take it the ribbon question is not aimed at me! ;)

Not so sure about Johnny Winter. :D

Still looking for a fascia (head unit) corner screw. :'(
-
I'd recommend a vist to the fatty admin, those NCDC units are very fragile, so, so easy to break things.

He's already fixed it :y

Good stuff :y

As I was told, the plastic clips/guides on the back of the fascia are brittle/fragile.
