Title: Boxing pay per view.
Post by: chrisgixer on 31 May 2014, 20:37:11
Assume for a minute that you like boxing. Also assume you would like to see the Frotch v Groves fight. And yes we'll all have to assume we have sky.

Now, assuming AAAALL of those things, how much would you be prepared to pay to see the fight?

Answering its irrelevant as you don't have sky, or not interested in boxing, or sick to death of hearing about this particular fight (I know I am) won't cut it.

I want to know how much you think is reasonable to pay.

.....this is going to be a complete waste of time I know ;D

Need a free option. If I paid a monthly subscription to a TV company, I wouldn't expect PPV.

Not that I'm a particular fan of boxing (but would possibly watch it if it was on, free), and don't have Sky, so I'm not really able to answer ;D

As a matter of interest .... having never paid to watch a boxing match either live or on TV ...if the match is scheduled for 12 rounds, and you've paid say £20 for a ticket ... if it ends after 6 rounds do you get £10 back ?? and would this apply to PPV ?? after all .. a half pint of beer costs less than a full one ..... :)

Aye..?   ;D

My dear Enty, that would depend on the quality of finish. It must be said, a worthy end IMO.

Now they can stop incessantly banging on and on in the media, for days and days and days about how one is going to "do" the other, and  I'm going to beat you, and no no I'm going to beat YOU. And, that nasty man pushed me, and.... oh FFFFAAAAAR COFFEEE WIL YA.

...ahem. Sorry, all better now. :)

Sorry - I've never thought about how much they'd have to pay me to watch a boxing match. :-\

It was all so much easier years ago, when allegedly, the promoter decided beforehand who was going to win. ::) ::) ::)

Sooooo .. if I read you right ...  you go to the cinema and pay full price for a 2 hour film ... they show you the first 10 minutes, then an incredible, extremely interesting, well shot, WOW... last 10 minutes ... and you'd walk out happy as the finish was "high quality" ???? :)

Personally I'd like to see the whole film ... but what do I know ....   :)

I voted £5 - £10 because it cost me £6. 35p tonight to watch the boxing, 4 bottles of beer and a packet of crisps from the supermarket, oh and a quick scout around the internet thingy.  :-\

Assuming all of your assumptions stand, I would say £0, as if I were that bothered about watching two blokes batter each other then I would make a point of going to watch it live, and therefore wouldn't need Sky to see it :y

Back to reality, I wouldn't pay sfa to watch summat I have zero interest in, especially when I get to see it live most weekends ::)

You could do it my way. I was in bed before it started, got up and made our coffee this morning, switched the news on and saw all the important bits  :y

Interesting poll. Iirc the sky charge £17 to watch the fight on pay per view.

Which is why the brain batterers and ball kickers get paid so much. Because common folk are willing to pay an extraordinary amount of money to watch them bash around a round thing; be it a head or a football.

The response on this site may be slightly different to the norm. But then the cars we drive are also slightly different to the norm.

Well that my point D.

I think sky are doing themselves out of business, by charging too much.

Possibly. Or if they have exclusive copyright then they can charge what they want to. The problem is they have a captive audience.

Have a feeling the price is not set by Sky, but the fight providers  :-\. Could be wrong.

I worked on the project to book/pay PPV Fights via SMS on Sky account, working out if their account is credit ect, lots of possible use cases.

Completed the project..... it was canned inside months as no one used it  ;D
