AVG is quite resource hungry and could be slowing your computer and hence your connection.  Switch to Microsoft Essentials or Avast which seem to do a pretty decent job, and are not as taxing on your computer :y

+1, AVG used to be good when the East European Students were running it, but now sadly a heavy resorce hog, I use the MS one myself, seems to work well in the background. :y

When you say your speed isn't what it's supposed to be.....does it affect the way you use your PC? Or....are you just annoyed at the fact that you are paying for something you're not getting?

Intel Pentium 4,Fujitsu/Siemens.Scale o-p.I was told it was a good one at the time, what speeds do you think it should handle.I bought it direct from Fujitsu as i worked for them,at the time.Dean :y

It needs retiring for a newer model if you dont want to slow your connection.  I had no idea it was that old or a single core, I imagine that it is your computer capacity that is holding up your connection speed.  You can try upping the RAM but you might be throwing good money after bad :-\

1.2Gb is borderline usable nowadays, unless your system integrator is very good at optimisation. I'd prefer to see a minimum of 2Gb for 32bit or 4Gb for 64bit

But the P4 and its associated chipset (at best, Intel 9xx series) is old. Certainly don't spend more on 'upgrades', put it towards a new machine instead. A 3rd (or 4th, prefereably) gen i3 (or i5 if funds allow) with a Series 7 chipset should see you through another 3-5 years :).  I wouldn't recommend an i7 unless you had a specific need.

Depends on the rest of the spec. I just bought 2 new tills for my bro, about £400 each, without screens, although they were business class machines
