Title: Dacia and Daewoo
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 04 June 2014, 15:14:07
I always get confused between these two. ::) ::) :)

Is Dacia the luxury arm of Daewoo in the same way that Lexus is the upmarket part of Toyota?.... :)

Just asking, no offence intended to owners of either of these prestigious marques. :)

Dacia is Rumanian, Daewoo is Korean ::)

I think you may find this is more of a wind-up to a certain non-miggy owner than a genuine question :P

But surely everybody here at OOF (Omega Owners Forum) is fortunate enough to own an Omega. :) :P

I'm guesssing that Nigel Farage doesn't drive a Dacia then. :)

My Korean dream machine is driving perfectly at the moment. It is not in need of a clutch. Nor does it need any balloons attaching to its suspension, which apparently cost about the same as a decent omega  ;D

Decent omega? A contradiction in terms, methinks. ::)

I think you will find Dacia are renowned for their reliability, superb electrics and cheap component level spares. ::) ::) ::) ::) Did I mention that they are a subsidiary of Renault. :o :o :o :o

Lord Opti I know you are always looking for business opportunities to add a few more Doubloons to your dovecot.

ZAZ are Ukrainian Daewoos and are made in East Ukraine, so it might pay to go long on stock as there maybe a big shortage of them due to the troubles and where global demand is so high. You will probably have thousands of people from Wakefield beating a path to your door desperate to get their hands on a ZAZ Daewoo at any price. ;D ;D ;D ;D

They make such notable models at the Sens, Lanos, Forza and Vida which are all rumoured to be in the top 10 best selling cars....

in Wakefield. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I could never ever buy something with such a name on on it after the joke which was the 'duster' in the late 80's

My daughter has a place in Turkey, and when I visited her there I was surprised to see hordes of Renault 12s all over: apparently Dacia had a factory there and built them under licence! They were cheap enough for the Turks to afford....

Dacia is the Romenian brand of Renault.. (their factory is in Romania not in Turkey).. but some new models are built in Bursa renault factory all engines, ecu, electronics drivetrain are Renault made..

yep.. Dacia is relatively cheap.. nearly %70-80 price of other renault cars here.. but even they are over 10,000 £ here ..

as for the renault 12.. you wont believe but most of them are around 25-40 years old but still repaired painted and in use ;D ;D ;D ;D

ps: renault 12 no more produced here

Thanks for the correction, cem, I was obviously misinformed - by an ex-pat scotchman friend of my daughter's! But is was about 10 years ago; have they never had a factory there?
As the climate is better than ours, I'm not surprised that many 12s are still alive - not much rust and also the Turks are great at repairing things!

nope.. Renault built one factory in Romania for Balkans.. but also has one factory for new models in Bursa..but both combining parts only.. not real production.. engines, ecu and most electronic parts and drive train parts come ready.. not produced here or there.. only they are put together and painted

So Rossi is an expert rider, CG is an expert in  suspenders, suspension, cem in painting and that just leaves Doctor Lord Opti, who has a PHD in diplomacy and never upsets anybody except when his discusses with his wife, using his gynecology skills with her sister and then he has to practice laptop dancing. :o :P ;D ;D ;D
