Title: 20 min colour 1957 video of life in Spain with English narrative
Post by: Varche on 12 June 2014, 14:30:54
Won't be everyones cup of tea but some will find it interesting to see the basic lives of Spanish folk back in 1957. The village of Mijas is near Malaga on the southern coast of Spain.

Since living here I have concluded that the industrial revolution of Britain for example passed most of Spain by. Similarly there are very few antiques. Anything "old" just gets left in the house and goes to the new owner. Having said that people just didn't have anything. That is why the secondhand market doesn't really exist. No classifieds in the local paper.

Some of the old practices continue to this day. Two families in our rural village still spend a weekend making soap each year. Then they drive home in their new 4x4's! ;D

Yes, an interesting film. Thanks for sharing. I've been to Mijas and its big neighbour Malaga.  It's changed a bit since then but some people do as you say hang on to some old traditions. Good thing too.  :y
