I'm posting today to reach out to my fellow Omega owners and you experts for some help and pointers because I want to put a list together of things that really are essential to maintain and keep your Omega happily cruising for as long as possible.
I've got this idea that I want to keep my Omega 1995 2.5 V6 (which for 20 years old is looking and generally in great condition ::)) on the road and keep it as healthy as possible. I mean like when you see a BMW, Porsche or Merc from the 50's or 60's and it's driving in top nick and just looks beautiful. That's what I want to do with my Miggy.
If it was you, what list of things in the engine, the electrics, the braking system, suspension etc would you prioritise and focus on to watch for wear and tear or just clean up?
For example now, the car is at the shop getting the head gasket changed and I'm focusing on the making the compression of the engine and making sure the gaskets are good and replacing any old ones. I'm also going to check all the pipes next week and look for cracks and erosion.
I'm hiring a ramp for a couple of hours next week so while I'm under it what list of things do you recommend I look for and check? What should I look for at the wishbones and surrounding area. What about the around the differential? Anything to check?
Your lists of points to check would be a great help and I appreciate you taking the time out to contribute.

Hi...It's the head gasket. The shop confirmed. But if you don't mind..Elaborate on the "Oil Cooler fail". What would that mean and what would need to be fixed if it happens? How does one find out if that's a problem?

Ha, well you see the Omega Head gasket has been mis diagnosed by a number of garages and "specialists" hence our concern :y
Oil Cooler - This sits in then 'V', you get oil mixing in the coolant and header tank, turns to brown gunge :)
This is often mistake for head gasket failure, as the 2.5 V6 is probably one of the strongest V6 engines HG wise :y

Head gasket failure generally results in an external leak around the back of the 246 head. Any oil in the water is 99/100 oil cooler failure, and readily identified as a thick creamy mud :y

Question ::)..When the oil cooler goes is it indicated by the engine light on the dash? Also...Where is it?

And to add the longer I read all the stuff in this here forum I'm learning tons of stuff :y but it's a little scary as the migs seem to have a huge list of problems to watch out for :-[ scary!

You may wish to confirm your 'Head Gasket' vs 'Oil Cooler' issue, before you get a heavy Bill from the Garage. :-\

Spend some time looking though FAQ's and Maintenance Guides, and picking out various help topics.
The Omega V6 Engines are pretty robust and good for high mileage, if maintained well and Serviced properly. ;)
