Title: Fantastic Logistics
Post by: Lizzie_Zoom on 18 June 2014, 14:40:42
I have ordered a number of products, mainly from/via Amazon, which have come from different places across Europe and the USA.

I have been absolutely amazed when there is a tracking facility on the delivery.  I followed one parcel across Poland, Germany, into Gatwick, to Maidstone and then to my door. Fantastic!

I am currently tracking a parcel  that the system of DPD is telling me is now 45 minutes away and being delivered by "Ben". I have been tracking this order, like the rest, from the time it was dispatched.

All this is done without phone calls but via the internet, in my front room, with no hassle.

How the world of logistics has changed for the better, and how the likes of Parcel Force, who I do not think Amazon or many other key suppliers use, are becoming a thing of the past - well for me anyway! :D :D :y

PS One parcel sent via the Royal Mail had no tracking on it; surprise, surprise!! ::) ::) ::)

I had a suprise when Royal Mail emailed me this week stating a tracked parcel would be delivered today. It was. Then another email confirming delivery. Had no idea they had started doing that.

Lizzie, I bet their prices compare favourably with Royal Mail's, too.
Last week I sent an ordinary, small-sized letter to America and they charged £3.70!
How in the name of reason can they justify that?

Wow! :o :o :o

So far with my Royal Mail delivered parcels there has been no tracking available.  Perhaps at last the competition is getting them to start getting their act together! ::) ::) ;)

I actually prefer Royal Mail. They are always first to arrive in the morning here at work. The delivery companies always come between 1 and 2pm (when I'm at lunch) , or at abut 5pm. This results in there often being no-one to sign for them, so they leave a card and naff off to the depot. I'm in Yeovil. We have a local Royal mail and Yeodel depot. But the other carriers are often in Exeter or Bristol - 40 miles away.

We use Farnell and RS for most of our electronic component deliveries. RS use Royal mail, Farnell use UPS. The RS parcel will arrive before the Farnell one 99% of the time. If it's a panic order, there is no way we'd risk ordering only from Farnell.

I think Yodel started out as "Yeovil Delivery", so perhaps it's no surprise that their service here in Yeovil isn't too bad  ;D

I think the worldwide tracking feature is brilliant too.

I order a lot of stuff via the Internet. The system works well till it gets to our end in Spain. Then they say it was delivered (to meet their targets) , then they ring and say "we can't find you". I then agree to meet them in a local petrol station.

It doesn't work too well on Correos (Spanish Royal mail) I returned some goods to China signed for. They never arrived despite being correctly addressed. Got the compensation then three and a half months later they came back "return to sender".
