Title: cambelt
Post by: rockabilly on 20 June 2014, 21:45:59
Well 1st cambelt changed at 60.000 miles some  5 years ago. Checked your forum for cambelt intervals and noticed your thoughts were every 40,000 miles to a change.
With my clock reading 110500 I dashed to my local garage for them to check.
mechanic rubbed his chin and said no at lest 60000.so of he the went to his computer to checked the interval.
My god you boys are right he said, every 40,000 miles that surprised me
Car now back new belt, tensioners and water pump, plus a alternator belt for good measure.

Thank you all I think I was a little lucky

Didn't Vauxhall originally say that the cambelt was good for 80,000 miles?

When James did mine recently the mileage was about 38,000 and it was about 6 years (18 months of that were parked) but the pulleys were starting to show signs of wear....  ::)

Don't think it would have made 80,000!  :-\

Vauxhall's service sheet that came with my 2.6 said 80,000 miles, but I subsequently saw a Service Bulletin revising it to 40,000 miles.
I'm guessing that the 80k was to impress fleet managers (like those extended oil change intervals), but real life bit them in the arse!
