Evening.
Can you buy a tax disc for a car that's currently SORN before the end of the month and not lose a month?
Eg if I buy a new 12 month disc this week, will it expire at the end of June next year or July ?
Can't find anything on DVLA.

In a word ....... No ::)

Ah well.
I had it in my mind somewhere that you could tax 5 days before the end of the month without penalty, but that may be for renewals.
Wait a bit longer then

You in a rush to give the tax man your money then ::)

I think the 5 days you're thinking of is that you can display the old disc for up to 5 days as long as the new disc is in the post. ;)

I think it's is 10 working days until new one turns up, but only if you buy before old one ends? will have to check. As for the tax disc, it is waste paper after it runs out :y

i was able to get tax disc on my daughters Corsa 2 days before month end but told not to use on road before start of new month,so of course i didn't ???

The system lets you buy it 2 days early in this scenario, BUT it is not valid until 1st. And ANPR will also pick it up as such.

You can buy a Tax up to one month in advanced if the vehicle is taxed for that current month, ie no gaps, I believe the new system at the Post Office now (or will) show the Tax Status when Taxing. If the vehicle is unlicensed, (Sorn, Not Taxed or in The Trade) you can only buy advanced Tax up to 2 Days before its due to start.
Should you managed to buy Tax prior to the 2 Days you run the risk of a Fine, plus Back Tax even if the vehicle is not on the Road, If the vehicle is on the Road then normal Un Licensed Rules apply.
I believe when the new System kicks in in October, you will be able to buy Back or Gap Tax online or by phone to overcome any genuine mistakes made? :-\
