Title: Nav apps and Bluetooth car kit.
Post by: chrisgixer on 21 June 2014, 18:17:13
Can anyone tell me why google maps instantly uses the cars Bluetooth for navigation, but Tomtom won't. Had a brief look at settings but can't see anything obvious.

I haven't had a chance to play properly yet though.

If it's a new tomtom, they aren't bluetooth capable... if it's a tomtom app, who knows :-\

Tomtom gay phone app.
Google maps gayphone app.

Same device. Same car. Same Bluetooth.

Tomtom won't play. Google maps will. Can't see any relevant setting that make any odds.

I'm also on a crap connection here currently.

Does TT work if you turn on music?

I think its just the TT app is shite...  ...at least in this respect. We know it is shite in all other respects already.

Siri works through iphone.

Tt app won't communicate via audio through Bluetooth in any way.

My siri works via BT  :-\

Not tried for ages, as I don't use TT, but I'm sure my old 3GS used to pump TT instructions via BT if iphone music playing. Never used it, as it meant lo-fi, mono tunes.

When out of bath, I'll try it against some BT headphones to see what happens

Only leaves the tomtom app at fault.

Turn google maps on. Enter a destination, start navigation, audio cuts in even turning the head unit on.

Tomtom. Do the same. Nothing. Unless there's a setting I can't find. :(

Yes I don't and I think I never have tried to music through BT.

But to repeat, in case not clear, Siri works via iphone through Bt

Ah, gotcha. I reckon you have to confuddle it, from memory. It doesn't whack it through BT itself. I suspect that's by design.

To sell more tomtom bt car kits, not Nokia ones.

There's a few settings for TT car kit. None make any odds though.

If the phone connects (or happens to be connected) by another app (google maps in this case,) then the tomtom voice can be heard. But TT app refuses to chime in on its own.

As said, suspect that's by design. But we're speculating, best to ask them direct :y

I don't speak clogg though. More importantly, nore do I understand clogg English, ESP when they have that ebay habit of asking way more questions than giving answers. Hoping you'll get bored and bugger off.

Googling isn't really helpful, with blocking dum arse questions from TT being most evident.

Don't they have a forum? At least you'll get a definitive yes or no, or possibly a workaround.

I believe you'll get a definitive No though, as you have pretty much discovered.

Fairly sure of you can't get it to work, it doesn't work. :(     :)

I've not looked too hard, as I use the built in satnav in all 3 of my cars.  I don't like mobile or portable units.
