Title: Why so many Newbies
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 17 June 2008, 17:46:00
Been on the Forum now for a few months and I have noticed that we have about 3400 members.

But I don't see them. In the time I've been on I've probably only spotted a 100 or so different members.

So I've looked down the lists and can find pages and pages of Newbies dating back as far as 2006.

It seems a huge proportion never even make it to the dizzing heights of Junior member.

The Forum seems entertaining and informed. Any reasons why this would be so?

Some people may have no real interest in OOF, or find computers etc a bit of a struggle, so just post up when they need assistance.  Thats fine by me.

Looking at the stats, I'd say we get an awful lot of visits by people who haven't joined as well - they probably find the info they need, and do not see the need to sign up. Again, no problem there either.

Some people probably read the Daily Mail, and are scared to sign up to an internet site, as we're all peados and are evil according to that trashy paper.

My dad, he used to be an omega owner, it was a 1997 Elite but had a problem with it called 'limp mode', i said to him that he should join the forum but didnt know nothing about computers.
Now he is a computer wiz, same as my mum :o :y

It's their loss-  This is a great forum, with a lot of nice, friendly people.

I have only met a few face to face and they were all really up for the friendship and commaradary (excuse spelling of that word - Dame Debs will correct it later! ;D ;D)   of it all.

But  a majority will just "surf" trying to sort out a particular problem with their Omega and once they have done that don't bother too much again.

On the other hand - we have the "The Regulars"  ;D ;D who love the forum and are on here all the time.

Thats my opinion anyway ! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Possibly, but remember many may not have any interest in cars etc, and just want to get it fixed....

I managed to make Junior despite my determination to keep quiet until I knew what I was talking about. Realised that would never happen so just started responding.
Am now living proof of the adage, people may think you are stupid but that doesn't mean you have to open your mouth and prove it.

The reason why i joined the forum was quite simply i wanted a Omega, from previous expereince of other cars and brands I have found the best person to buy a car off is an enthusiast.
I have found the forum to be an excellent place for technical tips and has an air of fun.

Mark DTM, can i have another star ;D ;D

I came to the forum to get some info, i think it was after getting a little on the OTHER site. More info than i needed and alot more friendly, so i stayed, you'll prolly regret that in time :P

last thing to say is I've been accepted as far as i can see and look foreward to meeting some of you at the Newent meet.

Great site Admin  may it last for as long as miggies roll. :y :y

I said "foreigners" not northerners, which I understand from a previous thread is perfectly acceptable ( ;D ;D ;D ;D), and anyway as you say GB is Scottish and the SNP themselves want to become "foreign" to England! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :y

Nice to see this place has threads that wander off topic like anywhere else then!

I'll admit I found this place purely as I wanted to know how to go about some minor work on my Omega, but I still lurk pretty regularly.  FWIW this forum seems to be a very friendly place with little or no chips on shoulders (unlike a couple I could think of) and having a large number of registered members with a small core is nothing unusual in my experience either.

So all I can say is enjoy this place, it's a credit to you all.

Nope....

Blair was born at the Queen Mary Maternity Home[6] in Edinburgh, Scotland on 6 May 1953,[1] the second son of Leo and Hazel Blair (née Corscadden). Leo Blair, the illegitimate[7] son of two English actors, had been adopted by a Glasgow shipyard worker named James Blair and his wife Mary as a baby. Hazel Corscadden was the daughter of George Corscadden, a butcher and Orangeman who had moved to Glasgow in 1916 but returned to (and later died in) Ballyshannon in 1923, where his wife Sarah Margaret née Lipsett gave birth to Blair's mother Hazel above her family's grocery shop.[8][9] The Lipsett family in Donegal supposedly originated with a German Jewish immigrant to Ireland prior to the 18th century.[10] George Corscadden was from a family of Protestant farmers in County Donegal, Ireland,[11] who descended from Scottish settlers that took their family name from Garscadden, now part of Glasgow. The Blair family was often taken on holiday to Rossnowlagh, a beach resort near Hazel's hometown of Ballyshannon in south County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland.[citation needed] Tony Blair has one elder brother, William Blair, who is a barrister and Queen's Counsel (QC), and a younger sister, Sarah. Blair spent the first 19 months of his life at the family home in Paisley Terrace in the Willowbrae area of Edinburgh.

Can's say the same about Tony Blaire though :o :o :o

I always thought Tony Blair and Gordon Brown were born in the same country?

Both in Great Britain/United Kindom.....

..... and Scotland?  TB was born in Edinburgh, AFAIK.

You are pulling my leg :) aren't you :-[
Well he lives just up the road and his agent was my PE teacher. ::)

And, I thought Tony Blair was the b*st*rd!!!
