Title: changed HBV, no heat. Kinked pipe?
Post by: terry paget on 28 June 2014, 08:41:25
KR02 RSO 2.2 petrol manual saloon
I have changed the replaced a leaking heater control valve, working from above as advised, thanks chaps. Job was tricky, and I had to put the spring clips on the engine and bottom pipes first, then twist HBV about to put on top hose, then found it tricky to get the vac line to stay on. Refiiled with coolant, put ran engine with heater on HI, but get out little heat. Pipes do not look too kinked. Do I need to burp it, or in some other way refill heater with coolant?

When I did mine on 2.2 very little coolant came out and it just seemed to work when reconnected. The pipes are shaped and when reconnected it should all sit nice and naturally, not twisted or under 'tension' if that makes sense.

Heater on high and go for a decent run initially?

Probably a small airlock. Heater on full chat, and blip throttle a few times :)

Looks like the pipe needs to be twisted around to get the kink out  :y

Thanks for advice. I have taken it all apart again, but had trouble putting the spring hose clip on the engine hose to single pipe on HBV so that it would not kink when inverted. I compromised by putting a jubilee clip on it loosely, then inverting the HBV before tightening it from below. Now it is not kinked, and I have lots of heat. I took care not to overtighten the jubilee clip, lest I crack the plastic HBV. If it does crack I will let you know.
