Title: Seized caliper?
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 28 June 2014, 12:21:32
I've had an ongoing problem with nasty squealy/screechy brakes.  :(  I've taken out the pads a couple of times (plenty left) cleaned them and filed a chamfer into the leading edge which worked for a while but the squeal has returned!  >:(

So I bought a new set of pads and went to fit them today, but I couldn't get the caliper piston to shift back into the caliper.  I had the cap off the reservoir and released the bleed, but it still wouldn't shift!  ::)

As I need the car this afternoon and it was supposed to be a quick job, I've put it back together with the old pads for now!  ::)  One thing I thought about doing was pushing the piston all the way out, give it a good clean and grease and see if will go back in then.  :-\  But as I need the car this afternoon I couldn't risk it! Tomorrow!!  ::)

Any thoughts chaps?  :)

Whenever I have had this sort of problem I have found that a G clamp will get the piston moving I use hydraulic fluid as a lubricant I would not think that grease is a good idea.

Also before pushing the piston back squirt wd40 under the rubber boot of the caliper  :y
