Title: glove box handle

Has anybody tried to fit a new mechanism by dragonlords "cheats" method in the maintainance guide,

I find it easier to just swap the complete box lid 2 pins out and your done. Got one here if needed

I have repaired several in my time..take out glove box..dont forget screw at side of  dash....take it apart by removing all the screws and repair and replace simples....takes a bit of time and patience ,,but on a nice sunny day in the chair in the garden cup of tea nice rewarding job to do  :y

hello Omegod are you saying that the lid comes off by removing 2 pins if so where are the pins

I am now confused why would the guide say remove the glove box when it is possible to remove door.

I found it easier to remove the complete glove box rather than trying to push the pins out that secure the front of it to the rest of the glove box itself...If you open the glove box look where the hinge is at the bottom inside and you will see a steel pin on each side and it is those two that need to be pushed out and then the clip in the picture taken off in order to take the front off which contains the handle you want to repair /replace rather than removing the complete box itself...matter of choice realy...

Thanks flyer taking just the door off sounds easier but then you have experience of doing the job.

Taking the glovebox out is really easy.

Three torx at top, four cross head at the front, three or four cross heads at side (inc releasing the air vent).

Its got to be better than trying to get the door of in situ what with the little clips and all.

Thanks magwheels what is involved in removing the air vent I dont want to break that to repair the glove box release. :y

End panel off.
Remove all the phillips screws you can see.
Pull vent out, unplug wiring as you go (if applicable).
Remove all the phillips screws you can now see.
Open glovebox.
Remove all the phillips screws you can see.
Undo the three torx caphead bolts through the holes in the top of the glove box.
Lift the airbag cover up.
Remove the last two phillips screws.

Bish, bash, bosh... takes ten mins max :y

does the end panel just pull off.

Yep, end panel just pulls off from the vent end. Needs wiggling about to get out past the door seal once the front is loose but as long as you don't just yank it off you should be fine.

Then one screw at bottom and one at top for air vent. Pull air vent forward and out minding the lighting wire and bulb at the back. Two further screws behind air vent to remove. Rest as per previous comments.
