Stag 300+, as said in other blog I am new to this system. When the system bleeps I take this is to tell you it's out of gas :o
-
Yup, series of fast beeps.
Beep Beep Beeeep [Pause] Beep Beep Beeeep
The green light will flash too :y
-
Thanks tunnie :y
-
Yep, don't paniiiiiic. ;D
Press the button to confirm and shut it up. :)
-
12 beeps is a low pressure warning, which roughly translates into not enough farts left in the tank :y
-
Just topped the LPG tank up, only took 20.5 ltrs and then shut off. How do I know it's running on gas :D as it's making the same sound as before :-\
The five bar gauge/on,off button has all the green lights on and the green light by the button is flashing. All lights go off when button is pushed :-\
-
Flashing green light indicates a fault, or its run out of gas. So a fault.
Do you have the lead to connect it up to a lap top etc...?
-
My lpg gauge shows full all the time, think yours also needs resetting via stag diagnostic software, which can be downloaded and lead acquired of internet.
-
If it shows a flashing green light on switching it over to gas, then the conditions for switchover haven't been met (minimum temperature of vapouriser and / or minimum RPM for switchover and / or minimum time after starting for switchover).
Obviously, with a bit of driving these should soon be met. You should get a solid green light once it's running on LPG.
If something goes wrong at that point, you'll get some warning beeps and it'll go back to a flashing green LED and switch over to petrol.
If it never switches over to a solid green light and you don't get a warning, something is preventing it from switching over in the first place (no RPM signal or insufficiently high vapouriser temperature).
It'd be well worth getting hold of the software and having a look at what's going on. You're pretty much blind without it when it comes to problem solving. The software is free and connection leads aren't that expensive.
-
OK, so looks like I have a fault of some kind then. Is there any one near Swindon wilts that has a laptop with the software and knows how to use it ::) as all I have is a gay pad. Beer tokens for a good job :y
-
I have a laptop and am willing to download the software - if someone gives me a link it would be appreciated - all you need then is the cable .. :) and we can soon have it sorted :)
Edit .. found this site .. which bit of software do I need ?? 7.2.0.1 or 6.0.0.37 ?

Thanks Nige

Got a lead if you get stuck.

Any chance you could post it over, I'll PM the address :y

Depending on the actual ECU, you may need the old one. There are many variants of Stag 300, and to confuddle matters, some are software upgradable to the different variants, some are fixed to how they left the factory.
-
Well we got it working .. sort of ... eventually !!
Difficulty 1. It needed a driver for the modules - eventually found, downloaded and installed.
Difficulty 2. It needed v1.x.x.x software - eventually found, downloaded and installed
Difficulty 3. We didn't have a clue what we were doing with the software, and all we got were injector errors
Difficulty 4. We spotted all the injectors were unplugged - corrected, errors went but still wouldn't switch to LPG
Difficulty 5. See Difficulty 3 part 1. :)
Difficulty 6. After a whole load of playing with settings (at random) it suddenly went into LPG mode :)
On a now serious note ... it was then possible to work out what each setting actually did - learning as we went. It was running on LPG but had a definite hesitation/misfire, after a while 2 injectors on the passenger bank stopped working, and it ran rough on petrol as well. Check the codes (emissions light apparently removed !!) and misfires for that bank stored (I'm guessing the ECU shut down the bad cylinders). Once cleared it ran fine on petrol. Switch to LPG and initially runs sweetly, but after a minute or so the roughness appears.....
When running we noted that the injector timings for banks 1 & 2 were surprisingly different ... bank 1 around 2.7mS per injector, bank 2 around 4.3mS per injector
We noticed that the lambda figures for L1 & L2 in the LPG software were both identical at 0.34V and didn't change at all. Checking the Lambda voltages with the reader there was a MARKED difference between Bank1 at 0.8V and Bank2 at 0.04V running on LPG .. running on petrol they are about the same. Switch to LPG and after a few seconds they change to a big split and the roughness appears.
Suspicion is the Lambda wiring for the LPG ECU is wrong ???
Present plan is Joff will examine the wiring for anything obvious, otherwise he hopes to take it to the Oxford meet where (if possible) a tech2 will give better live data, and someone who knows what they are doing can look at the settings. I'll take the laptop and TB's cable so it can be plugged in......
Question is .. have we missed anything obvious ??? (other than the injectors being unplugged ... DOH!!!)
:)
-
Excellent progress. At least you are able to see what is going on now. :y
Is it one of the later Stag ECUs that supports self-mapping (and if so, have you tried turning self mapping off)?
Other than that, the Stag ECU doesn't use the Lambda sensor inputs, they are just there for information.
You can switch individual cylinders back to petrol by clicking on their symbols at the bottom right of the screen. Can you use this to isolate a troublesome cylinder that's causing the fuel trims to diverge?
-
Need to fix the eml so you can pedal trick the codes at the very least for on going diags. Or get a code reader on it, you'll get missfires codes, as the ecu shuts down each pot as E says. Re start and it re sets.
So at a guess, misfires caused by poor fueling, caused by incorrect nozel size or wrong or failing injectors on gas.
It needs setting up basickly. Fuel trim errors would confirm that? Hopefully.
I can bring my lapy and to Oxford for a fiddle ;) if you like. :)

Big thank you to Nige today, and yes Christ if you could bring your laptop to Oxford that would be brill. It must of been OK at one point in the last four years that it has been on the car :-\ Also nice to see Al today and thanks for taking the bumper over :y

That's gay pad for you (note to self must preview first) ;D ;D ;D if he can get it running on all six on Sunday (on LPG) I will call him God if I have to. :y
-
Bless you my child.
I'll see if I have any miracles left. :D
...suspect it will be more involved than a tickle with a lappy though.

No problem at all :y All fitted nicely now... Good to see faces old and new today too 8) Only 150 miles to go, and then it's bed time ::)

Update on this, but first off, Joff you have a pm, re spare injector hoses and nozzles if you need them.
Turns out, they had drilled the nozzles on the angled inlet pipes on the manifold, rather than by the petrol injectors as Kevs guide. This meant there was nowhere else for the pipes to go except over the fuel rail. So as we know there no room for a pipe to pass through there, when the plenum was re fitted, it squashed 3 of the pipes and upset the fuelling.
Pot 6 was exceptionally bad, as t had also crushed the fuel pipe over the fuel regulator vac pipe as well, so pot 6 had no chance, hence the agro on that cylinder especially.
The nozzle position will have to be drilled and new/other nozzles fitted if the old ones brake off on removal, they're only brass ime anyway. Although we couldn't see what the installer had used.
Anyway, got some bits here if your not already sorted Joff.
-
As chrisgixer says, pot 6 was the most problematic, so its good to find what caused it :y
4 and 2 also showed signs of crushing. Hopefully a nice easy fix :y
-
Thanks for the offer of the parts Chris and you have a PM, I have not done a thing to the car this week as I come down with a bug on Monday morning and tonight is my first night back at work. I have the inlet manifold from the 3.2 MV6 here so will drill that when the parts get here from Chris so I know the correct size. I have to transfer some other parts as well ::) ::). I have to thank all of you again for your time on Sunday on what was a very hot afternoon working on the 2.6 LPG. Thank you :y :y

No worries Joff.
Missed the post today. Will post tomorrow.
