Had a full geo check on the Estate today locally using Hunter equipment following inner edge wear on one of the front tyres. Camber reset to WIM values, and front and back adjustments carried out (once rear track rods heated and freed off) - all for £45 + VAT.
-
Wim values aye? I wonder if dbug will send the other £25 to Wim?

Why - they didn't do the work, and the geo values are published on an open forum. Seems they are overcharging a tad ::)
-
Guess not ;D
-
The reason I posted is that it proves that there are other people out there with the equipment to carry out a full geo on an Omega at a reasonable price. It may also be helpful to others in the area to use this facility rather than travel further afield (PM me if interested).
For Gixers information the operator was well aware that Vx's camber values are a bit extreme and was actually suggesting a figure close to the "WIM" figures. Not rocket science.
-
I wonder why Wim helped us out online with those settings though dbug? I bet it wasn't so members could trot off to another firm instead.
...and I know they asked for those settings not to be made public as such, although -1.10 is common knowledge to be fair.
Does a rocket have a camber setting though ? :-\ ;D
-
I wonder if dbug will give me those details if I pm him. ...?

Then blame those members who have posted values on an open forum.
The reason WIM "helped out" with those settings was to gain business and make money from a captive audience as certain OOFers always say take it to WIM, no one else can do it, and have perpetuated the "myth". Guess the people who did it for me did it to make money too, just maybe not as "greedy" as WIM ???
As for rocket science its obvious that if tyres are wearing badly on an inside edge, then there is too much negative camber.
My offside front was measured at -2º31' - just within the Vx tolerance, so was adjusted nearer to the magic -1º10'/1º20 figure - just common sense really.

No - only genuine OOFers local to me need apply.

That's a very good price. :y
I paid WIM in Chesham over £100 (think it was around £114) to set mine up after full suspension and wishbone change. No adjustment required on the rear as it's not done big miles.
And yes, I did mention OOF when I booked it in, and again when I was in there paying, but no discount for me. :'(
-
-2.31? Christ that would of been obvious just looking at it.
Anyway. I'm sure wim will take comfort from knowing your all sorted. ::)

Mine required adjustment to camber both fronts, adjustment one side rear (and heat to free off), adjustment both fronts. Thats bad re the discount but no discount for me either ;)

For those not getting the OOF discounted price when booking, contact wheels-inmotion by PM, and explain the situation. I'm sure if there process problem, Tony will be wanting it resolved.
dbug - we've seen many places with "all the gear, no idea", and set it to GM spec, or those taking GM spec, but using WIM's camber (which is better, but not the full story). I'm not afraid to recommend those where I've seen the before/after figures of a selection of their Omega work. Hence, I'm not afraid to recommend Langs in Bolton or Fleet in Loughborough.
Where WIM score, is they listen to the customer, and if necessary, tweak settings away from the baseline to match the chassis and driving styles. Their staff understand the implications of the settings, that seems to be the key difference.
Hence, where everyone else failed, they transformed my OKish handling Silver Bullet (back in the STS days) into the driving joy it is today, hence the car I only intended keeping for a few months has been with me for over 10yrs.
WIM are a 90 mile round trip, yet I know there is a place in Towcester that has the same Hunter DSP, but upon speaking to them, I still use WIM.
You pays yer money, etc...
Dr.Gixer - whether intentional or not, you are coming over as argumentative and unfriendly on this thread, which can become corrosive, and goes against the environment we are trying to maintain here. Please consider the consequences to the community when being passionate about a subject. Thanks.

Agree with your comments Jaime - however I found this company were prepared to listen to me, and the operator understood the implications of the settings.
Yep "You pays yer money, etc..." - guess its not only about "comfort zones", but in my case I felt the quoted price was more than reasonable - my round trip was only 10 miles ;)
Agreed, thats why I "bit my tongue" - not worth the aggro in responding to unhelpful comments.

It's not an unhelpful comment at all dbug.
While I agree they need to look at their pricing policy, especially on cars that need no adjustment, I'm just amazed you feel no loyalty to a company that's helped the forum out for so long.
And then to keep the info to yourself for members of your choosing, well.... ;D

Yep unhelpful comments as usual from you.
Why should I be loyal to a company many miles from me who are charging top rates for a job I can get carried out to my satisfaction from a local company a hell of a lot cheaper? Perhaps I should have used the phrase "OOF recommended settings" rather than "WIM settings", as the data is freely available on this forum (admins, and I believe yourself have posted data up, despite your comment that "they asked for those settings not to be made public") and elsewhere on the net!
I am prepared to give details of the company I used to any serious enquirer by pm - your enquiry was not serious and I'm sure your motives for asking were not to get a sensibly priced geo carried out on your car.
-
My motives are purely to point out the spite from you, which you've proved nicely. ;) and that if its wasn't for wim, we wouldn't have those settings in the first place.
Clearly there's no point me driving all the way up there, past Wim in the process. ::)
Anyway, I doubt Wim give two hoots one way or the other.
There's 3 or 4 companies I could use near by, but don't as their oppsing useless.

No spite, just fed up with your argumentative and unfriendly posts. Will not add further to this thread, as always you will feel the need to get the last word. Prove me right once again ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Ok. Happy now? ;D

Children, children, Travelodge are doing special rates from £19 a night. Get one, and take your lovers tiff away from here. Its beginning to piss off the admin in me

does local included Huntingdon. :)

hope you don't mind my tuppence as jamie and others know i am new to area and no nowt about cars except how to drive them. but after moving here and meeting some members i take all advice i can to ensure my car works,i don't have much finances and rely on my car. yesterday i traveled from mk to chesham simply on the word from oof'ers i know i can trust and rely on this as do the chaps at wim or other name now i can't mind, they showed and explained to me what needed done and i was quoted a price range from 60 - 95 plus vat depending on work. as it turns out as good old marks dtc calib had been under my car recently and loosened rear fixings and i had new front wishbones etc little work needed done. i was charged £72incl vat which was good price for what feels great car now.
they gave me a data sheet with all adjustments etc which i reckon looks good even if i don't have a clue what it means. but anyway point is i know these chaps have helped and continue to help and i for one feel good that i am also helping them and my car. thanks

Couldn't have put that better Brian :y
There are places a hundred miles closer to me with the same kit, but they aren't interested in getting the settings right, even if you give them precise measurements... They see it as unimportant on an aging barge... Gets frustrating after a while, and WIM scores big time on taking the time to understand the foibles of setting the Omega just so. And that is worth every penny in my mind :y
-
I've found Fleet Fit in Loughborough to be excellent along with WIM. Really just depends on time constraints for me.
