Evening fellas...
As my topics recently have mainly been about rust I figured I could go on about rust bu....... so I will :y
Ma's Ford Fusion. Has plastic trim around the wheel arches.
Are these a magnet for stagnant water and early rusting i.e. they keep old water locked in and make everything rusty? I note that when she reverses off our drive (which is slightly sloped) after a night of rain you see water coming out from them. Would the best solution be to whip these off and treat / underseal them to prevent rust from happening?

Rear arch liners will normally cause the rust ,on the puma/fiesta was a common problem, all you can do is remove, clean all the crap out,and rust treatment, when refitting maybe cut about 1-2mm off the edge where its closest to the arch :y

definitely..

I think the problem is the moisture traps they they can cause as they definitely stop stones etc. thrown up by the wheel, chipping the paint / underseal and causing rust, which is what used to happen before they were fitted on cars.
1960's rust buckets without these would have major wheel arch corrosion problems in 3 to 4 years. :o :o :o

Thanks boys. I'll whip the liners off when I get a chance and do what I can to underseal :y

As long as its been properly undersealed from factory the plastic liners will last far longer that exposed paint , as said stone chips will create rust as on most non plastic wheel arches :y I mean look at the Ka ::) The rear arches are good , just the rest of the car is disolving around it ;D
