Title: 2 golden retievers
Post by: JiMbOb789 on 17 June 2008, 10:23:38
hey, i got a bit of a problem, as i am moving to new zealand, i need to give are 2 dogs to a very good home.
The problem i got is that they ABSOLOUTLY CANNOT BE SEPERATED. As they are brothers, there always with each other and always sleep next to each other and play with each other.
Any of you interested or know anyone that might be intersting in taking 2 golden redtrievers of my hands?
I am not asking for any money but i cannot stress how much they cannot be seperated!
The dogs are as good as gold, always go to the toilet where there supposed to, dont chew nothing, if you were to leave them by there selves, they would be as good as gold.

So any of you interested or know anyone that is?

Thanks :y

Unfortunatly we cant take them because it costs £6000 per dog so for 2 is £12000 and i think they would have a better life here :'(

Bless! would love to but same as James, 4 would be a bit much!! Best of luck though  :y Hope you like NZ, been a few times, my uncle lives in Christchurch. They have a system of dog registration there, which is cool and ensures good health and easy owner tracing if they manage to get lost.

Let me have a chat with the mrs... We are thinking about dogs so may be able to help!!

I live in the country and they would be well loved and cared for!

Only trouble is that for 2 days a week they'd be alone at home for about 11 hrs...

Oh, and how do they get on with cats???

We've spoken very briefly and it wasn't a definite no... Wasn't a yes (yet!) but wasn't a no either!!  :y :y :y

Why are women such fickle creatures???  :-? :-? ::) ::)

Definitely need some more info from you as to ages and history etc... The most important thing is how they'd get on with the cat, because she has to be our first priority in the decision having lived with us for a long time!!!!

Some pictures would be good too!

Thanks. She does but, we have stoped tip bits and she gets a lot of exercise for a family Lab. She is soft as muck as they say, barks at the door bell then hides under the table.
They are a commitment, but equally rewarding. :) :) :)

Our lab couldnt have hidden under the table, she'd eaten it! Cost us a fortune in furniture, shoes, skirting boards, conservatories etc.
Dont think our cat would tolerate a dog that close, all the local dogs are terrified of him!

nice pic!  :y

Thanks for all the replies peeps, some of you have mentioned and PM'd me about rescue homes. The problem is they can go there aslong as they wont be split up, it is so important.
I would just like to add, obviously, at the moment they are molting so if you have carpet, you may have a spot of trouble and also the only fighting thay do is with each other but its only play fighting, i will try to upload a video ::) :y

Oh don't they look gorgeous!!! I'm about to go out the door because I've got to go to a funeral in Hampshire but I'll chat to Mrs LD on the way and see what her thoughts are.  ;) ;)

Oh, I haven't seen an answer on how they get along with cats? Mine will soon tell them she's the boss and ignore them if they leave her alone!! Also, how old are they?

sorry mate, they get on perfectly with cats, sometimes the dogs lick the dirt of the cats :-/ :-?(dont ask) and even sleep next to each other.
As far as the age goes, i dont know it of the tiop of my head(i will check) but we bought them at the begining of september when they were 6 weeks so no more than a year mate :y

also, if someone was to have them, they love dogs beds that they can both fit in with a blanket, we took the bed away for a clean for 5 mins and they were stood by the door crying and making funny noises.
Another thing is there toys, they are superb at football and fetch, harvey (the bigger dig) likes small toys like in the picture(a ripped up volley ball) and charlie likes tug of war and likes football, you throw he will go fetch it and drop it to your feet, absoloutly brilliant.
They also love biscuits so if your biscuit lovers, the dogs wouldnt mind if thay had a biscuit each :y

Beautiful dogs  :y :y

Unfortunately we don't have the space they would need so it would be unfair to be selfish and offer to take them .. :(

Now if someone donates me a million quid to buy a smallholding, I'd have them in a jiffy   :y :y :y

I`m terribly upset for Harvey and Charlie; so much so in fact, I`ve struggled to be able to contribute/comment on this thread. :'(
IMO they`re surely going to feel the loss of their family profoundly, and you`re quite right in asserting that they MUST NOT be parted.

I sincerely hope that a kind and warm-hearted forum member will come forward to offer the guys a new home and welcoming family....but, if not:

1: Are there any local Retriever breeders you might contact; often they have connections and breed-enthusiastic doggie-friends whom might be able to assist.

2: Have a look for Golden Retriever online forums, joining one and making an appeal; citing Charlie and Harvey`s specific circumstances and need to remain together, might yield another forum member whom could offer a home.

3: Local radio; an appeal (carefully worded/stipulated) on one of the `phone-in programmes might bring forward some Golden Retriever loving listeners.

I so-wish that I might be of (more) practical help, I feel desperately sad for the guys, and hope their handsome heart-melting looks will make them be quickly snapped-up....
They will be in my prayers tonight (and each night) until I hear some good news. :y

You are right not to have them separated.

when i used to foster i fostered a pair of black lab sisters who were 8yrs old and the could not be separated. when they were separated between rooms they would go nuts roisey didnt like her kid sister lottie being away from her!

they ended up with me because the elderly couple who had them the gentle men had a stroke and ended up in a wheel chair.   :(
i fell out with the rescue centre i worked with because they said they were going to have to split them up to get them a home! i went nuts at them....... >:( :o..much to my admasement they would not take my advice and thought they could split them needless to say i with drew my skills and help to them. i found out that when they did spilt them up the girls health worsened. so they ended up in kennnels together. where the are now i dont know.  :-/

They look great dogs  :y

I couldnt really look after 3 (ive a black lab) altho Holly would love 2 playmates.....

Agree with you and others not to seperate them.....a friend of mine had 2 chocolate labs.....they used to whine and mope about if seperated even just for a short time (if one had to goto the vets for example)....
Sadly one of them had to put down (had a big internal growth that went undiscovered for years.....bloody useless vet  >:( .... the vet kept telling my mate he was overfeeding it) The other lab didnt last long after that......i guess he couldnt understand where his brother had gone  :(

Hope you have success in finding a suitable home for them   :)

We would love to take care of them for you, however, as you probably know, we took in two black german shepherds, brother and sister.

If we didn't have a two bedroom flat and had a bigger garden we would sap your arm off.

But....

Current circumstances prevail and it's just not feasible, much to our dismay.

I really hope you find someone who will care for and cherish them as much as you have done.

When are you off? Just have a slight concern because we've got a holiday planned for the middle of next month and it would be very difficult to make arrangements for them in the mean time.

Mrs LD is definitely coming round to the idea... Don't get me wrong, it's not taking much convincing for the dog side of things, it's just the concerns over how the cat will react!!  ::) ::)
