Title: Satellite cable requirement
Post by: Shackeng on 10 July 2014, 18:54:38
I have a dish which feeds 2 cables into a Humax box, and I can watch one and record another channel on Freesat, I don't have Sky. I have another cable of the same type in the roof which terminates at a terminal in a room the other end of the house. Can this be connected to the same dish to provide single channel viewing? or do I need another dish? :-\ :-\ :-\

It depends how many connectors there are on the back of the LNB that sits on the end of the arm in the dish.

If yours only has 2 you can get an LNB with 4 connectors for about £30.

A search for 'quad LNB' should give you lots of examples.

Thanks Andy, I'll look into that. :y :y :y

As Andy says .. we have a "quad" LNB .. 2 feeds to the humax box in the lounge, 1 feed to the cheap & cheerful receiver in the kitchen, with a spare one to feed a bedroom if we ever decide we need a TV up there .. :)

I picked up my Quad LNB's off the bay for £8. Had them for 2 years, at home and the caravan..no problems at all.
They were for Sky, I assume Freesat are the same ?  :y

Would I need another Humax or similar to feed another set if I use the quad LNB system? Or can I just plug it into the TV socket and get Freeview? :-\

Freeview or Freesat?
Freeview uses a traditional aerial, Freesat needs a satellite dish.

We would need to know what model of TV you have (or a photo of the inputs) to answer the question.

Good question. I haven't got a TV for the extra room yet, and as I only have the satellite cable available there and no normal TV aerial, I assume it would have to be Freesat via some sort of box?

Bump,

Can anyone advise on this?

There only appears to be a limited range of big expensive TVs with built in Freesat receivers. I was going to post this yesterday but was waiting to see if any caravaners or truck drivers had anything to add about small TVs with built in Satellite.

Set top decoders start at £50 (Bush) or £99 (Humax). For now I would get the satellite cable in place and when the time came get a modern TV with an HDMI input (looks a bit like an oversize USB port with chamfered ends) and a decoder with HDMI output.

Thanks guys, so as I expected, only Freesat will be avlbl. TBH, I can't remember if I put a coax in there as well, I guess I better have a look. I'm pleased that I can get Freesat there though. :y :y :y
