Recently moved and my trusted garage has closed own due to retirement. I do not do any of my own work, zero, zilch, zipo, none whatsoever. So a new town and not a clue about where to go, there is a VX dealer very close by, but I'm not made of money. Today I realized that MOT expired ! Big panic so I'm giving the below a try.
Booked online for collection tomorrow. Phone call within minutes to confirm car collect soon after 8 am. So far so good. I have no idea who will be doing the work, not a clue, slightly worrying . . . but hey who wants to nick a 2003 MV6 ?

For £171 there seems a lot more checking than changing. :-\ :-\
Is there no one on here who could help you out locally, Mr Rog?

About £60 in parts/oil from Vx, plus a couple of hours max, plus the cost of Mot, but certainly wouldn't touch that with yours :-\

Spark plugs are at extra cost, Al. : :-\
Just looks like oil/filter and air filter to me. :-\

I meant, that's the cost of all the parts for a full service :y £171 for one in 1200 garages to not service my car is taking the piss IMHO... Expect a speeding ticket or three by the end of next week too, being in North Wales as well... :-\

Gotya.. :y
And the OP will have no idea who will be supposedly servicing his car.
Some knuckledragger who once worked for Quick Fit perhaps. :-\

Well, it's booked so I'll see what happens. Just a couple of points
1. I need an MOT . . . NOW ! If I were to get pulled driving to the meet in Oxford or back to London . . . ???
2. I booked online today, being done tomorrow. Most garages will pull a face and say they can't do it for at least a week or something. Plus they are collecting and bringing back (I hope ;D )
3. I'm used to London servicing prices. You lot of skinflints would be appalled at what I used to pay. I'll reserve judgement till I get the bill and see what's been done etc.
-
Mot could be booked en route, only issue with that is what happens if it fails...
Being an Internet based service agency, they simply use a garage near you... But your contract may well be with the agency rather than the garage actually doing the work :-\
I sympathise with the predicament but am unsure if you are brave or foolhardy tbh...
... To the point I would take it to the local Vx dealer for the Mot and arrange the service at a more convenient point, ie the Oxford or a n other meet :-\

. . . . . or may be just a bit stupid ;D
Realistically, my car is important to me from a very practical view. I really need it. Over the last few month my Omega has done Sterling service, back and forth London-Wales-London almost weekly at around 500 miles each round trip. Usually with huge loads in the back. I just don't have time for farting about, and if it costs more, then so be it, at least until I find a good reliable garage in Wales. If I scrapped the MV6 today, I've had my moneys worth out of it, but I don't intend doing so . . . . yet ???

I'd be very wary of these type of places , all the checks they will be looking to inform you that this and that needs changing unless you know different and thats where the bill will be significantly more than £171 + labour + parts + vat .

Update:
Booked full service and MOT online, all quite easy. Had a call and email to confirm very soon after. Car would be collected between 8 and 10 next morning.
Young lady turned up soon after 9am. Left a car in the drive and drove mine away. I was pleased that she took some time to familiarize herself with the MV6 rather than just driving off.
I had an email saying that the car was at their service centre nearby, it was an industrial/retail area with quite a few garages like Kwick Fit, ATS and others.
A call from Service Stop in the afternoon saying that a duff tyre had failed the MOT, £85 for a new one. Fair enough, I knew that the tyre was loosing air.
Another call, asking if it would be ok if the car is not ready until next morning as they needed to order the tyre. Ok, no problem.
Email and text message asking me to go online to pay so that car could be released. Amount payable was as stated plus the tyre.
Car delivered back by a young man, with MOT and some advisories.
Summary: The service works, obviously the actual work is subcontracted out and therefore is not particularly cheap, but I needed service and MOT very quickly, so fit for purpose. The Service Stop people are very professional and polite, unlike many garages !
My only quible, and it is a big one is this. I buy good quality expensive tyres. I've had too many bad experiences with chinese cheapos, noise, rumble, bad grip etc. The replacement tyre was one of the cheapest you can get, it was made by BTG. If a car has Avon ZV5s all round, why would anyone think that some cheap tat will be acceptable to the customer ? Plus £85 for some cheap tat that can be got for around £40. I went for a drive yesterday, and it's not too bad, a bit rumbly, but the tread is totally different and I just don't feel confident. I'l probably change it.
I would use them again if I had to, but I would not just say "yes" to tyres etc, I would want details first.

I hope that your Omega is an auto, Mr Rog.
There isn't a woman alive who knows how to use a clutch properly. :-\
With the exception of a 'cheapo' tyre your experience seems to have been quite positive. :y
......probably unnecessary, but check to see they've changed all they said they would. :y
