Title: Bang !
Post by: Paddy Flannery on 16 July 2014, 18:46:51
Kick down with sports mode on this morning climbing up the motorway and BANG ..... In the mirror I can see a bit of my exhaust has fallen off and the car now sounds like Stig Blomqvist's Audi Quattro.

Got to work and noticed that the pipe from the cat back to the middle box on the offside has disappeared.
Clean off at the joint behind the cat, no bolts left, nothing.

Thought I'd killed the car when it happened and expected the dash to show me all it's pretty amber lights but nothing. Hope the cat is ok .........

 ???

Having spent hours on my back separating rotten Omega exhausts from the downpipes I struggle to understand how it happened :-\ Could you have hit something in the road? or do you have to drive over some nasty roadhumps on a regular basis?

Aye, 2 road humps in my street but I crawl over them. I can't explain it.

Am I right in thinking that if the cat was damaged when it appeared to have blown the pipe off that I would have the EML on ?

No, as the O2 sensors are in front of the separation :y

Was just thinking the same, still could have been worst, could have the set of triple ladders I lost somewhere on the M6

Might have been the sound deadening escaping and causing a blockage :-\

Managed to blow the back box apart on my old estate in similar circumstances  :o

Be worth getting the car up in the air to check for any subsequent damage, as brake lines/fuel lines and petrol tank are all in the firing line from any debris :-\

Need to get my eyes tested  ;D

Turns out the back box was split open like a tin can. What bang it made ! Taxi Al, you know what it sounds like !

Anyway, replaced and all quiet again.

Aye !  :y

I was running late for work, saw the back box was still solidly in position by giving a wee kick and in a covered car park with my shades on, I miss-diagnosed !  :D
