Never heard of 'im.

Although I must say, as an outsider new to the forum, it does seem strange that oilmans post are deemed acceptable, even though they are outside the guidelines, yet other posts equally outside the guidelines are deleted.

Just saying.... :)

I think this newbie Roperman has a good point on keeping the website non-commercial as I got fed up with the repeated adverts as being against the ethos of OOF. :(

The adverts were far too frequent and weren't very slick. ???

I agree with you tbh but at the end of the day, have a word with admin and let them sort it.
I'm sure you would get plenty of members supporting you on this  :)

At the end of the day, it did look pretty shitty to any newbie who had popped in without knowing what had been going on over the last few months

Not really, it was clear, and a poll added. It was a poll, not a demand. Although they should be banned IMO. Same as mini pooper spammers.

Long live oilman..... :-* :-* :-*

The forum would be much the poorer without his input. ::) ::) ::) ::) ;D :D

Total concur with Chris. Rules are crystal clear regarding selling.

Currently you need to be an Intermediate Member (over 250 posts) to advertise your Omega or your Omega parts.

Then you have this rule.

No posting for sale items in the 'wrong' areas to get around the postcount limits.

So "Oilman" is contravening both. Current postcount is 111, when I was at school that`s less than 250, plus his sales pitches are in the "wrong" areas.

Nothing more to add really except to say that it does appear to smack of double standards ???

Thing is, it would be no issue, if it was the same for everyone. We've all been beaten over the head about selling rules here, and understand the reasons behind them. Eventually at least.

So the rules/guidelines are there for everyone. Right?

Well, no actually. Oilman seems to get a special license somehow. Ok fine then, same for everyone right? So we can all sell any old over priced tat we feel like, in any section we choose, with no post count limit.

Can't we! :)

Of course you're right, Mr Gixer. However, I fear that your words will fall on 'deaf ears'..... :-\ ;)

So if I raised a poll about banning an individual member, that would be OK? How would you feel if I started a "lets ban ropeman" thread?

At the risk of repeating myself when LZ brought this up a couple of weeks ago, Oilman is an invited member, the same as the likes of WIM, to provide services to members. Ideally, we'd like to be able to put this into the Recommended Sellers section, but we can't get it working properly, it needs more development time.  Until such time as we can provide such members with a suitable area for describing their current offers, this is where we are.

I'll say it again, just in case anyone think there is anything underhand going on, nobody in the Admin Team make any gains (beyond the same discounts offered to members) from these companies, nor does the club gain financially (hence why we keep rejecting all the requests from the various insurance brokers and similar who want to advertise here, in return for a percentage. Or rejecting all paid advertising, or embedded Google Ads etc).

And that is the final word on the subject.
