hi guys. i have had my omega 2.2 for about 3 months now. but now and then but not allways the auto box. holds 1st and second gear for a long time this is only when cold and only last for the 1st quater mile after that it is faultless. is this norm. :y

Have you carried out the oil level check as per guide?
-
just had oil and filters changed about 4 weeks ago :'(a
-
Sounds like too stiff oil or lack of oil to me.
-
it was a vauxhall main dealer that changed it surely they would use correct oil :-\
-
Then it's propably correct oil but maybe they didn't fill it up enough? I'd have that checked first :)
-
i wish they had put a dipstick on these like the senators had. would be so much easier.
-
They all hold low gears when started from cold.
-
thats good to hear. seems worse since new oil and filters would that make sence
-
I thought that you meant the box holds those gears for veeeeery long time :D Yeah it's normal that first gear changes feel kind of slo-mo.
-
it would hold first for 1500 yards it only if i put my foot down it goes 2 2nd and third but by then im doing 40 in a 20 zone :'(
-
It depends on how cold it is outside, but they hold the gear to warm the cats up quick.
When I first start up in the morning I hold revs at 2000 for about 15 seconds and that seem
to sort it.
-
okay that sounds like a plan thanx for that will try that. :y
-
yep my last omega hung in first for a while when cold,,,funny thing is i had oil and filter in box changed and it was worse only to find that the garage had not put enough fluid in when refilling the box...
-
yes i will get that checked just in case. :y
-
just tried that this morn elmstoneboy , it worked a treat. :y

If they filled it engine off, then it would be too low. Needs to be running, having selected a few gears. Preferably, check level with engine running, take it foe a short spin having engaged all gears and check again.
Likewise, if checking the oil level engine off, the oil will poor out of the level hole. Which you don't want, obviously. :)

On the v engines it will hold a low gear until 3000rpm, or the cats are warm.
Or, until sport mode button or snow mode are pressed. However, if modes are turned off, and it's very cold, it sometimes goes back into cat warming mode.
Four pots might be slightly different...?
