Title: TB and the Honda...
Post by: cam2502 on 29 July 2014, 21:23:03
Seen you had a Civic in another thread ... How was it? MIL is considering one.  Could you give me your opinion on its good and bad points?

I'd of thought it would leave that lexus for dead. Gutless bloody things they(new shape I.S.) are.

I followed a new Civic yesterday and it looked as though the designers thought "that's it, all finished" but then remembered they had forgotten the rear lights and just bolted some on.  :-\

Far too much focus on speed these days young Chris.  ;) ;D

Nah, the dashboard could handle Left and right hand drive variants without modification (an air vent was fitted where the steering column would be on the opposite side) and the instrument binnacle was designed to be exchanged for Left and Right Hand drive - if you lifted the rubber mat on the passenger side you could see the plug in the hole in the dashboard where the loom would be routed.

It may well have been well designed and practical, but it still looked like a pod stuck on the parcel shelf, a little bit like the Fiat Panda of the day............ ;) ;)

Forgetting the engine in mine, plus the fact your MIL probably won't drive like a maniac.

I reasonably comfortable ride, maybe a tad harsh, but was 6k km on clock, and FWD. Sports seats which I found really comfortable, but sit in one for 20 mins and see. I found it a decent little runaround. Not great in any respect, but not poor either, aside from the points below, and it had really good A/C, unlike all the Focus' we've had on previous occasions.

Stop/Start cannot be permanently disabled, that was my biggest gripe. Rear visibility is fairly poor.

I only did about 100 miles in it, cost €28.01 to refill it (had to go back full). By my rough calcs, that's around 20-25mpg, which considering how sedately it was driven, is really bad.

The engine in mine, no idea what it is, other than it had I-vtec written on it, and it was petrol, but it was utterly gutless. It never saw 100kph, though I suspect it would eventually get there. The dash was suggesting changing up very early, and running it at around 1500rpm. So test drive it if you want something zippy.
