Hello,
Had some bad news as the orange engine light came on and a visit to my local garage today confirmed the head gasket is on the way out. The engine has been using a little water for a while now and running rough on start up and idling. Could anyone recommend a mechanic / garage in Staffordshire who could do the work and an approximate cost.
Thanks in advance

Try sending a PM to DLK, who is a 1st class Omega mechanic based in Stoke.

Take a look at the guide on here also - I had same problem and using the guide and help from here I changed my own :y

The 2.2 is a very easy engine to work on. Depends on if you feel confident enough to DIY :y
I did mine on my 2.0 took me 2 days to do but you will need a new back after doing it ;D

has it always got to be a head skim :-\

A lot on here have been done without and are fine, I had my head tested and skimmed for completeness. The cost was less than £100 to remove sheered exhaust studs, pressure test and skim.

Getting the studs out is easily worth every penny of that £100 imho :y

Indeed and they actually got them out leaving the original thread in head, just shows what the correct kit can do!
