Had to take Miss Vamps to a specialised NHS Dentist as she wanted some work doing, long story short, she is not eligible for this on the NHS, he then went on to show, using model teeth the result of the treatment, which she could get done privately....... :o :o
She has a slight overbite and wants’ a brace putting on to correct this, it’s not really bothering her, but we agreed to investigate, there were other young people there who were clearly going to get this treatment on the NHS.
At the moment I was taken aback, that they would go direct to the child and, say the work could be done privately, potentially raising hope for the child, without any due consideration as to the parents ability to pay, and all parents know about ‘pester power’ I was present but he was speaking directly to her. The dentist did say that he did not do private work here, but some of his colleagues did............. :-X
We then had to go and speak with someone else, she explained the two prices, to which I listened attentively and took the information. Then I let rip, explaining the very difficult situation they are putting parents in, raising the hope of the child and leaving the parent in the position to say that they can not afford to pay for the treatment, Surly they should speak with the parent first, to assess weather private treatment is viable, she agreed with me................... >:( >:(

SWMBO had an overbite and after the use of neck/jaw brace things ...... long before I met her (not sure I can even remember that now ???) Anyway, she had her jaw broken on both sides, the middle bit slid back a bit and a gold band around each side (I'm hoping to collect these when she's cremated ::)) and she then ate meals for the next few months through a straw as her jaws were wired together. A mandibular osteotomy. It was done on the NHS. The daughter of her best mate also had a noticeable overbite and had the same done just a couple of weeks back ....... on the NHS

That's the problem Andy, it not really noticeable, that's why they won't do in on the NHS, I can live with that, it was the promoting, to the child of 'Private' treatment regardless of knowing the families financial situation.......... :y :y

I have to ask, is it bothering her? is it life threatening? no, leave it alone.

I'm in full agreement with your argument Mike, but Miss Vamps is the Patient & therefore she is the one they address their concerns/ treatment plans with. It's all this poxy 'Modern' Political Correctness/Data Protection malarkey, so either Pay up or Shut up! ;D ;)

That's actually not true, they have to be discussed with the person able to provide consent.

Given her age and level of understanding this is borderline, and I was present, with her at the time, and I had signed the consent forms.
I will be revisiting options in a couple of days, got too much on at the moment with swmbo laid up....... ::) ::) :(
