Been getting a whining noise all day today everytime i switched off the car?
Its quite loud and was coming from under the bonnet, so lift up to see if anything loose or hanging, but nothing.
Standing and looking at the engine it sounded like it was coming from the right side (area between the radiator and battery)
It lasts anything from 10-40secs after every switch off?? (Not on start ups or while driving)
To give an idea of the noise? Its similar to the noise a windscreen washer pump makes, but the noise turned upto 11.
Anyone had any similar experience. :(

Fans winding down :-\
Not much on a 3.2 to be making noises under the bonnet...

I have heard the fan a few times in the past after switching off but it was never this noticable? Thats why didnt even think of the fan?
-
Il double check tomorrow to see if the noise is associated with the fan? :y
-
Mine does the same after switch off and it is very loud...
It could also be the after run water pump getting noisy too.... as its coming from that side of the radiator. Not really looked into it TBH but might have a glance at it later today...

Probably the electric water pump which is attached to the cooling fan cowl, unplug it and see if the noise stops :y

Had a look again? Seemed like it was coming from the tubular shaped pump attached to the radiator housing. Im suspecting this over the fan as there was a moment when the noise stopped (while i was still looking at the fan) fan was still spinning down but no noise.

And pete i had a look before reading your post (so put up what i saw) so i will go out again in a bit and check? When you say disconnect it, do you mean the connection block on top? Or is there another connection somewhere on the side or underneath it.

Get the car nice and warm and simply unplug it :y
Plug should be on top...
-
A little late, but now can confirm that it was the electric water pump which was making a racket.
Coming onto the second question can this be removed from its housing? Or the whole plastic cowl needs to be changed ???

Takes some perseverance with a couple of long thin screwdrivers... insert them between the motor and the rubber collar, and work them around until it is unstuck all around, then jiggle it out of the collar :y
