KR02 RSO 2.2 petrol manual saloon
12 year old car 71000 miles, I have removed the plugs, and the gaps are .038" (.966mm). Plugs are GM000 plugs twin electrode. Do you think they are original? Gap seem wide to me. It used to be .015 on my Velocette Venom 500cc single motorbike, and if it went over .020 it would never start.

Pass...
...but the 4 prong ones start life at .02 (.5mm) if that helps ... http://www.ngk.com/product.aspx?zpid=9344

You can't gap a multi electrode plug. The outer earth side is side on to the centre electrode whereas the single electrode plugs that you fitted to your bike had a plug that the outer was underneath the centre ..... it the bit you gapped.

Don't mess with the gap, the electrode will snap off more than likely, as they are plug and play. If they are/look worn, replace them.

Thanks Chris. Have now replaced them.
Modern ignition systems are so good plugs last for years. On my 50 year old Stoic lawn mower I change the plug very year and the points every four years, or it will not start.
I note Haynes still describes how to regap plugs. Old habits die hard.

NGK and iirc most others used to be set up 0.7 :-\
