Would two (or four even) stainless steel 18mm Tek screws through the bracket into the A pillar an acceptable remedial? :P
(Along with a new strap bush of course)

I don't see why Tech Screws wouldn't do a good job - It's decent material you are fixing to. BUT, you will be making holes in a section which will need to be strong for the life of the car. If that starts to corrode, bye bye check straps! I'd be more inclined to get it welded and treated. :y

Stop throwing the door open ::) meantime get it welded :y

weld is the best solution.

Weld I'm afraid.
I'd certainly be concerned drill holes in part of the safety cell, and also remember there is loom up in that area.

weld is the best ONLY solution.

Valerie Singleton would use double sided sticky tape

That's what I was primarily worried about... all I'm worried about really... Weld it is then. Bugger. More money. >:(
