Are the Daewoo's cheaper? ::)

I'm afraid the boat has been missed, Tigger, there are no more available.
-
Bollix! I'll just have go back out into the cold and wet and carry on fixing my old barge then! ::)
I thought you'd just presented me with the answer to all my problems, but you give with one hand and snatch away with the other! :(
So cruel! :o :( ;D
-
STEMO, is it as shite as the Zafira?

I am so sorry, but there's not even a used one on the trader. I'd offer to sell you mine, but I couldn't bear to part with such a useful, reliable motor. ;D

You're not sorry at all, you bastard! ;D

Well....as you know, you can't compare apples and oranges. It is certainly not as shite as a 10 year old Mk 1 diseasal. ;D

Nothing could ever be as shite as that ;D
However, I did have to concede to Marks "I love my Zafira" DTM the other day that at least it can carry a Ladder 5A that I borrowed of a colleague....
-
As people carriers go, the Zafira is the best value for money, in my opinion. You get exactly what you need, but for a lot less money than an S max or a Toureg. There are thousands of them out there so you can pick and choose and parts/servicing are no problem at all.
The Orlando looks better, I think, but I've got a feeling that a bent body panel could mean an insurance write-off in a couple of years.
-
Your Daewoo Orlando is a 'whopper'...... :)
Ideal for lard arse yanks to travel across the states in. :)
-
The Orlando is obviously so desirable in Wakefield that Uncle STMO has to keep his in the back yard! ;)

Yes, the top of my drive is a bit cracked and plant infested. ;D

To answer the original question, mostly because the garish brick is £8k more expensive ::)
The Zafira looks a bit tidier with the Exterior Pack fitted and some decent wheels :y it's quite colour sensitive though, so white, silver and dark grey metallic all looking the blocks imho 8)
How to look good in a Zafira (http://www.victoriamotorcompany.co.uk/files/3314/0387/5545/ZAFIRA_003.JPG) 8)

No. Orlando looks better, much better. :P
And it can't be more expensive, cause you can't buy one. The list price of both, when new, is similar, but zafiras, like all vauxhalls, are heavily discounted.

Here's one for you, Al.

Right...I said there were none a available....turns out there are plenty available....on the trader website....but not on the trader app. Weird....and annoying.

This is the same car as mine, but mine has done less miles

If I was in the market for a 'Mummy Bus' and had that sort of cash I'd consider one, but I guess they're just a Zaffy in sheeps clothing really. :-\
-
Only 7 white ones... also interesting to note that you can buy a new Zafira B for £10795, yet second hand ones are between £7 and 9k, whereas white petrol Orlandos are £18500 new, yet cost less than £8k....
Apart from the looks, there are two reasons to avoid the Orlando... 1. for licensing purposes, the Zafira is a safe bet, and 2. As you pointed out, body spares could prove troublesome for repairs :-\

That's exactly what they are...except it's wolfs clothing. ;D

;D
Why are Galaxy's so expensive comparatively then? :-\ It's only a Ford after all...... ::)
-
They're a full size, Mundeo based seven seater, whereas the Zafira is Astra based and therefore more competitively marketed/priced :y
The Smax, although the same as the Galaxy to the rear wheels has a lower roof line at the back, limiting rear head room and a smaller boot... if you need to carry 6-8 passengers and luggage, then buy a mwb minibus... nine seats and space for nine peoples luggage :y
I can only get both the Zafira and the Smax plated for four passengers, and now that the Vectra is too old, the Zafira is a pint sized 5 seater with a decent sized boot, albeit uninspired :y
-
And all that Zafira reliability... :o :o :o Like an Omega was when new and like an Omega is now where they are old and with high mileages, if my daughters experience is anything to go by. She was happy to get shot of it and get something much more refined and reliable a Nissan Qashqui. :y :y :y

Lovely looking things. ;D

Okay, in that case I won't mention superior Dacia's and their superior reliability. Auto Express: 10th Nissan Qashqui, 6th Dacia Duster and at the bottom: 8th from last Vauxhall Antara with such notable company as the Audi Q5, BMW X5 and several Land Rovers.
The second comment by 'stevie' a minicab driver is interesting ("by far the most unreliable minicabs are Vauxhall Zafiras") and one for Taxi Al to comment on.

and again in the family car section the superior Dacia's show up again: Most reliable: 1st, yes first: Dacia Logan MCV, but it is obviously not a conceivable option for any self respecting badge snob. ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D

Reading down the comments the Quashqi doesn't fare well...
Would hardly call the Octavia or Passat durable ::) the interiors look like crap after about 50k, the carpets are cheap and impossible to clean properly, and on what planet is it acceptable for a modern engine to require a litre of oil every 1000 kilometers ::)
Even my 270k Omega only uses a litre every 10k miles ;D
I wouldn't consider the Zafira to be an SUV in any way, shape or form...
Best comment on that survey... (and I paraphrase) Yet another pointless survey. Well done ;D

2nd generation Qashqai is I think better looking and certainly better built than 1st.1.5 diesel engine is a Renault. But Nissan parts prices OMG where on earth do they dream those up!

The defence rests... :y

Not getting into the Chevy V Zaffy argument, after all which would you rather say to the pretty girl in the corner of the dance floor?.............. :D :D :D
I had a good test drive of the Qashqai back in 2007 and a look earlier this year, the seats are, at worst, as comfortable as a Mig................ :y :y
Honda seats are not that good for skinny bony bums......... ::) ::) ::)

If you think Nissan are bad, then don't even consider a Mitsubishi! Of any sort; even parts the small ones are astonishingly expensive.

But they don't break!!!! Our Gallant, we both loved was a flying machine and only ever needed service items......... :y :y

Your all so naive. He's just trying to elevate his Daewoo to Zifira status.
...such aspirations. ;D

I personally found the zafira seats un comfortable, I got a ( gets ready to be abused ;D) a kia Sedona as found the seats comfortable found it be be a good drive. down sides the seats are bloody heavy to take out when you want to use the full space for loads
-
As with all cars, the basic models and basic seats are harder, the better models get better seats.
Reliability wise, I cant fault the mum bus, its just turned 122k miles and feels like it will do the same again with pretty much no work done.
The biggest issue I know will be the gearbox, but a pretty easy to do bearing change will over come that.
As with all diesels you need to be aware of DPF's but I do long journeys so no issues.
But anything with the Renault diesel needs to be considered very carefully as they are bloody awful and suffer major failures .
-
The Astra chassis isn't quite wide enough for a decent gearbox, so the 150 diseasel destroys it in pretty short order if driven hard... as my brother would testify having destroyed two in two company cars, both within 2 years and 60k ;D
Thinking that through, the 140 1.8 might do the same, although the 150 diseasel chucks out alot more torque

The trick is to use a good oil to start with, they then last much longer.
And the issue appears not to be so much torque but temperature hence why the engines with lesser output also see issues (and why better oil makes them last much better). There is but one bearing that has a problem and it can be changed with the box fitted (all be it the subframe lowered a bit on one side).

Where in the range does my Elegance fix, as the seats cripple me after about 90 mins

They were probably quite reasonable seats...once upon a time. They're now 10 years old and you're fat arse has finished them off. ;D

I think a previous arse, far fatter than mine, has knackered them, as they are horribly uncomfortable.

I think I might have just pissed my pants, and getting an awfully strange look from Mrs TB.
She can't see the funny side. Bloody women.
