Title: Any Jaguar XF owners around here?
Post by: aaronjb on 25 August 2014, 19:13:40
Just wondering as I test drove one at the dealer yesterday (2014 XF SE Business with the 200hp diesel & 8 speed auto) and I wondered if they all drive like a bag of nails, or if it's just that dealer?

Nice engine, nice gearbox, bit cramped inside but tramlines worse than (my) Omega with knackered wishbones and a dodgy steering idler.. to the point that it was hard to keep it on the right side of the road at times through Windsor Great Park!

Invest in an old XJS from the eighties. You can't go wrong. :)

Screwed together by BL's finest.

A couple of colleagues have the 2.7 diesels and they think they are great - seem pretty reliable as well.

that engine seems to fare better in the car than in the Discovery 3/4,it can be a pain in the ass in them

I had the 2.7 weasel when it first came out.  Handled fantastically and felt solid at top whack on the autobahn ::)

It is possible that they have downgraded the suspension to make it cheaper for certain models :-\

I'm not fussy. Any or all of them, including the car :P

My neighbour had a 2.7 diesel in his old S type, lovely power delivery, perfect for sideways fun. (and yes, I did tell him how I drove it).

He's now got a tweaked XKR, that is monstrously quick, but far better behaved.

I saw an XFR estate the other day, all in black.  The pictures on the web dont do it justice! :P

It was the sportbrake I was looking at - well, would have been if they'd had one anywhere other than in the showroom (which was an XFR) ;D

So far everyone has said "No, mine handles wonderfully" so perhaps that one has spent it's entire short life bouncing off kerbs on test drives..

I tried to test drive a new C220 Estate as well, only the dealer told me they aren't released for another two weeks so.. ;D

Are you exceptionally wealthy, like Mr Opti, Aaron?

if I was exceptionally wealthy I wouldn't be looking at the lowly 2.2 diseasels, would I  :P I'd be looking at 5 litre Mercs like Mr Opti bought ;)

How about an E class ::)

You know I do like your E class  :y  I just did a reality check and think maybe I don't actually need something the size of a land yacht anymore ;D

Having said that, all that would hinge on Nissan playing ball and since they haven't rung me back yet.. I don't think they want to play ball!

Never mind eh :) If nothing else it's fun to go test driving new cars, especially as I've never actually owned a new car..

Er.....that old barge of a Merc cost less than 70% of what STMO paid for his 'delivery mileage' Daewoo.

.....and is certainly cheaper year for year than buying a Monaro.

In summary......CLS 500 Mercs are fit only for paupers like myself. :-\ If only I could have stretched to a Daewoo like Steve. I wouldn't be short of female company then  :( ;)

Well....you can have the daewoo for free.....as long as you take my personal 'female company' with it.  :y

Had a 3.0d XFS for two years.

Fuel Economy - Good
Speed - As fast as there's any point in going.
Gearbox - As close to perfect as any auto is going to get
Ride comfort - Unecessarily firm  :(
Handling - Boring/Good for a modern car (ie- miles better than audi/bmw/merc)
Dealer/brand attitude/customer care - Excellent
