I've got a pair of £40 ebay wishbones on mine which I'm pretty sure the front bushes have now failed. ::)
They've creaked for some time now especially at low speed braking and maneuvering, but I'm starting to get some erratic handling when braking at normal speeds. So I need to do something. :y
Is it worth poly bushing cheap wishbones or should I bit the bullet and fit a pair of decent wishbones? :-\
TIA! :y

poly the front and re-boosh the rear, :y

Poly the current ones, without removing them if possible to preserve the geometry... if you need to remove them then fit new balljoints (they bolt on) and new genuine rear bushes, then refit and get the geometry done again... :y
Incidentally, how many miles had they done?
-
About 10K I think, I'll look it up. You pays your money...... ::) ;D
I didn't fit them though and I was never really happy with the job that the cheap garage did which may have contributed to their early demise. ::) But if I recall rightly, Entwood had to replace a set of Lemforders after 20K recently? So in comparison it's not so bad really. :y

Where did you buy them from? I normally get 20k from the rear bushes and balljoints, (but poly them from new), on the ones from Germany...

When you see the price of polywollys you will be buying another cheap set ;D
Get them fitted right and they will outcast the car ::)

These were the ones I bought, but paid £45.89 for them. He's jacked his prices somewhat! ::)

It's going to cost about £140 for poly front bush, Lemforder ball joint and geniune rear bush (all x 2), which is about the same as a set of Lemforder wishbones from ECP. ::)
Alternatively, I buy a set of the German ones that Al uses, whack them on as is and then poly bush when needed or just poly bush existing ones in situ and see how it goes...... ::) :-\ Decisions decisions!! :D ;D

That's what I would do... you could poly them prior to fitting, then just replace tother bits as and when, but certainly won't be soon :y

At least it's obvious why your current ones failed ::) I would suggest that they're made of cheese and should be binned :y

Quite! ;D I've no complaints about the wishbones as I knew what I was letting myself in for when I bought them! :y

If they were genuine ones, or my german ones then I would say to refurbish them in a flash, but cheese ones should never be rebuilt :y

Thanks Al, That was kinda what I was thinking, hence my original query! :y
I've probably done quite well to get 10K out of them! :)

Indeed, my personal best/worst was 1000 miles...

I'll add that the Lemforders I've seen in the last couple of years have visually looked poor quality. That said, I suspect most of them have come from euroshiteparts, and my views on them are well known here, so who knows if they are the genuine article. That said, Lemforder idlers seem to be a bit poor quality now as well :(
I'd find a "decent" wishbone, poly the front from the start, and accept that every couple of years they will need a new set of rear GM bushes.
The balljoints seem to last for ages if the wishbone is good... ...100k, possibly more. Only ever had to change balljoints once.

I have a new set of the German ones with new drop links and track rods in the boot of the LPG Saloon with a new set of poly's just need to get some GM rears now and press out the fronts and pop poly's in and same with rears with GM's. They were going on the saloon but as that is now going for parts they will sit in the parts shed until needed. Which ever car they go on will not need new wish bones for many 1000's miles.

I would re-bush with a poly front bush, new rear bush if necessary, and slap them back on, with a coat of paint if they are starting to rust, TBH.
You won't need to pay for another suspension setup in addition and, as long as the metalwork is sound, it's as good as genuine.

I don't have a lot of confidence in these wishbones to be honest due to the way they creak when braking and maneuvering at low speeds which makes me wonder about the quality of their manufacture. :-\
Didn't someone here have one snap recently? :-\

Only after fitting an "experimental" bush which stressed the wishbone more than a standard bush.
Check it hasn't rotted badly, and that there's a generous bead of weld around the rear bush mounting rather than a few tacks, and that there are no signs of cracks.
