I went over to Liverpool yesterday for the christening of my great niece. Started north on the M1, 50mph limit (managed motorway conversion in progress), average speed cameras all the way up to the M62. Fair enough, did 50.
Got on to the 62 and, after about five miles, 50 mph again, ALL THE WAY TO THE M60! OMG, I thought, I'm gonna be so late. So....sat at 50 in the middle and loads of vans, cars, minibuses flying past at 70 in the outside. Ah....I thought...I remember this from last time.....no cameras, no hold-ups....I'm off! So off I went. Got about five miles down the road and. I see a dot matrix sign by the side of the Mway, speed limit 50, speed cameras in use. Everyone is still flying down the road at 70/75, so I did too.
And on the way back.
Gulp.

Not been on there for ages, however they are converting the stretch you are on about to 'smart motorway' last I heard the average cameras were not even up let alone working, (did you see any?) but don't quote me. They have only just started the coning and signage there and have to apply to the DOT to put a temporary 50mph limit on that or any road / motorway.

It's been there on and off for about a year. Everyone, and I mean everyone, was ignoring it, although I know you can't commit an offence just cause everyone else is.

Managed motorway... oh gawd it'll be like the M42 round here then.... completely 'dangle berries'ed with this smart motorway rubbish. When will they learn that the delay isn't the M42 it's the inadequate entry into the NEC and Airport and the M6 - be better to fix the cause really or maybe move the freight on the M6 onto trains where it should be ::)
