Title: New noise
Post by: Paddy Flannery on 12 September 2014, 08:09:36
She started a new noise last night from front suspension. It's a hollow sound as if the header tank was empty and loose and clonking against the body, if you can imagine.
Worse on slightly uneven road surface than over speed humps. No noise on good, new road surfaces.
Braking and steering still good.
She's done 126,000 on original drop links. Could it be them ?

Either drop links, ball joints or top suspension bearing....

Have had a similar noise sound on mine, It was like a loose golf ball rolling around it was not there all the time, in fact I took the mechanic up the road with me to prove the noise was there. not always but every so often there was this dull knock.
I had replaced every thing, even had top suspension strut bearing replaced thought it sounded if coming from there, guess what not even that worked.
Went back to garage, they put car on ramps, we went underneath again and shook, banged and pushed every thing found nothing new.
Mechanic then said your Steering tie rod ends feel a bit stiff, let spray some Wd40 on the two end joints, we had nothing to lose,
Now more noise knock completely gone? it could be worth a spray !!!!!,but what do i know, best of luck.

Rockabilly, that's a cheap fix  :y

My MOT man will chuck it up on the ramp prior to going into the MOT bay to see what's what.

I'll hopefully report back with the diagnosis and new ticket next week !!
