Title: rear pads
Post by: plym ian on 13 September 2014, 12:04:11
Changed my rear pads a while ago and ever since ive had like a click noise when I brake and if I reverse it'll click to. Had a look today and spun the wheel while swmbo pressed brake pedal. Heard the noise but couldn't work out which part was clicking. So took wheel of and stripped pads out nothing was loose, so rgreased and reassembled but still has clicking noise which is annoying :(

any ideas if anyone has had this before?

pads were not genuine but fixing kit was :y

I've heard that many old calipers just do that for no other particular reason that just being old and worn, I'd say nothin to worry about there tho must be annoying..

I have the same noise in my Discovery, in mine its the brake pads, there is a slight (very slight) gap due to wear & tear not so noticeable when the pads are new and got loads of meat on em but when they wear in a bit they don't fit into the caliper housing as tightly. When you brake the slack is taken up and I can hear a little 'click' as they close in, same happens in reverse gear.

Tis very annoying TBH would make sense as when I put new pads in quite a bit of crud came out of in between pad an caliper. I have got 2 brand new calipers somewhere at home may change them at some point and good excuse to fit the goodridge brake hoses I acquired some time ago :y

Slightly off thread, but I  have  an unused set of pins for the non-vented  discs fitted to the rear of the some Omega.

The Ebay seller sent me the wrong fixing kit (The MV6 has vented rears)......so let me have the pads (£15) for free. :y :y

I re-used the original longer pins without any problems. :y
