Usually available for download around 6pm in the UK... :y
4S and above I'm sure are the compatible iPhone models for iOS8.
Will be updating my iPhone 5 32GB
Should be getting the iPhone 6 Plus 64GB in a month or two see how things go.
-
Oh god, a load more pain with my bloody crappy dumbphone
-
It's not mandatory to update. ....is it?
I'll be holding back on updating mine, see if there's any reports of slowing the phone down. Which there will be....
-
Pretty sure it isn't mandatory to update...
I'll be updating later this evening some time most likely and will let yous know if it has blown up mine or something ;D :y
-
Unless I have a specific problem, I always wait before updating and see if the fanboys (Apple and Android) experience any issues. ::)
-
Wait for a few 8. Releases first. Always teething problems.

If they haven't got it right after seven attempts, perhaps Crapple are in the wrong business ::)

You should have a word with Bill Gates then if you think it only takes 8 attempts is enough to get it right!

Sony fanboy. Sony always works first time out. No security issues or lost personal data.

Seeing as I only bothered to update my gayphone to IOS7 yesterday, I doubt I'll be in much of a hurry for this new shit. Afterall, if the frecker works....

Commonly known as 'I think I may have bricked my iPhone by updating it', better known by the iOS Development Team as iBrick.

I've yet to have an IOS upgrade work without some kind of failure.

Compressed files with the Install Pack ;)
Give it a few more updates and it will be like Windows, where you need to delete your personal data to make room for Windows Updates. ;D

highly compressed download file to save time/bandwidth ... when decompressed takes up a lot more space for folders and files ... seemples .. :) (even crapple can do that !! )
edit : beaten by 18 seconds ... :(

Yep. Anti brcicking message.
If it downloads and installs without enough memory to expand the files into, it will never load properly.
Aka. One IBrick. Make sure its on charge or has more than 50% battery as well btw. For similar reasons. Surprised it got that far with a battery that flat tbh,

Running smoothly on here so far anyway 👍

Ok on the mini so far :)
But some if the features aren't back compatible. Disappointing but not unsurprising.
Keyboard suggestions look useful.

iOS 8 is getting slated in the media ::)

To be fair, every iOS release gets slated in the media.. it's the "cool" thing to do..

I've updated my iPhone 5 today - it all seems to work nicely :)
No issues with the download or install
-
It needs 4.6GB of available space. Doesn't look like I'll be upgrading to iOS8 anytime soon! ;D

£72,030 to be precise, although I might have ticked a few boxes along the way ::)

Done the update.
Looks the same.
Feels the same.
It's the same.
Seeing as I wasn't going to delete a few GB of MY data to do the upgrade, I entrusted it to the magic of iTunes.
I upgraded iTunes, made a full backup of the phone and then performed the upgrade. Took all of 15 minutes, and not a single problem (yet).
Not that it seems to have done anything. I've already turned off the 'next predicted word' feature on messaging and e-mail. It's never worked (on any platform) and will never work, EVER. I am not Stephen Hawking, I do not talk in sentences predetermined by a computer.
The 'Recent' contacts at the top of the screen are annoying.
I like that I can share paid apps between 6 devices, even with different Apple ID's.
Camera 'upgrades' are a waste of time, the camera is shit and will remain shit.
Still won't own a Samsung though! :-\
-
It's not a very noticeable difference visually overall if coming from ios7 granted
No major problems here, Have noticed scrolling in the App Store, Music Store etc.. can be a little jittery that's the only small issue I've picked up on.
Will just have to wait and see how it is long term, Battery life doesn't seem to have been affected.
Biggest change will be the upgrade, Mainly the iPhones screen as i'll be going down the 5.5" model. But if it does feel too big one thing about buying direct form Apple you have 2 weeks to play with the phone then send it back free for a full refund.
-
There is a long list of improvements in the learn more option.
Settings/general/software update/learn more.
Not sure if it's still available once upgraded though.
Adding voice messages is handy. But as said before. It's not back compatible with lesser versions. So won't work unless the recipient upgrades as well.
No split screen though. :(
-
Understand the bit about needing 4gig to unpack it after download BUT how much larger then IOS 7 is it.
I've got a 8 gig 4s so wondering if its worth it :-\

Having agro on iPad mini 2.
Bottom line is a bugger to cut and paste as it won't accept the cursor. Or sometimes won't accept anything at all. And someone's moved the keys a bit.
But none of you lot will of noticed. Right? ;D

Puzzled :o
A lot of responses. A lot of views. And I'm still trying to figure out why it matters ::)
I mean is this something REALLY REALLY REALLY important that i don't know about ?

Define REALLY REALLY REALLY....?
The sun will most likely still come up in the morning so not really important. Especially if your like my Dad who refused to accept that mobile devises had any use at all at one point.
Now we can't keep him off the thing. Ooh must just check my ebay, there's a nice bang and olufson something or other come up.
::)
All things being relative, yes it is reasonably important to some people, depending on how much value is placed on mobile use I guess. :)
I suspect our Rog has little use for a mobile out in the Welsh boonies anyway...?

My question was fairly serious (only fairly, not REALLY REALLY ;D )
I've had a mobile pretty much since they first became commercially available, yes I actually had a "brick" and use one constantly. Calls, texts, email etc. I just don't ever recall having to, or wanting to, update the operating system or anything else major. Just change the whole phone and swap the SIM every couple of years or so.
Ah well . . . . . . old ::)

Updates are usually desirable as they improve the experience, fix bugs, add features etc.
...usually. Sometimes the opposite is true, hence the concerns and "shall I shan't i" on here. Basically it might be better, but might be worse.
And also seems to depend on the individuals needs. Etc...

That only really applies to crapple ::)
My gay fony phone updates itself and always works... well it does when it gets a signal ;D

Mmmmmno not really. Nokia being the most useless at software releases with new models especially. And as all things are relative, if you have experience of early Nokia smartphone days, they make Apple look as immaculate as the Virgin Mary .
.... So, have had one of these gay crApple devices then Al?

So not talking from experience then? ;)
....is that Fony of yours water proof btw?
-
Yup :y although it isn't supplied with a plug for the headphone socket ::) ;D
I have never subscribed to the (lack of) thought processes that having the latest crapple device will in any way, shape or form make my life more interesting/exciting/betterer/fulfilling/rewarding/enhanced*
There has always been something irritating about the whole concept which has an air of smugness about it, much like a new Audi or BMW and Bono :-\
I would probably get a facebook account before I get an apple device, and that won't be happening in this decade ;D
* delete as applicable :y
-
Whilst I agree with most of that;
1 you can't really criticise until tried. And I have driven a BMW btw, and it was shocking. Tramlines more than an Elite or worn out Falkens.
2 given a quite reasonable aversion to crApple, what on gods green earth made you choose a Fony? The screen is mullered, the signal continually drops out and it's a good job it is water proof as your always under water when I ring you on it. ;D
3 and it's your second purchase from the useless Japanese company about to go tats up in a big way.
Have you been drinking the Reading water again? ;) ;D
-
If it helps, I didn't pay for my current phone, which I freely conceed is crap compared to my older one, which I also didn't pay for ::)
The best thing about it is the screen size, but, because the screen is made of toffee, it's next to youseless :-\
Fair play to Jobby Jobs that he has managed to sell more crapple devices than there are people on the planet, but I would rather not thankyouverymuchalrightthen :y
When my next upgrade is due I shall reflect on what is available and go from there... pre mobile tinterweb I quite liked Motorola RAZRs, but next phone might be HP related, who knows...
-
If looking for something remotely usefull, and not crApple, then your only real option is android os supported hand sets. Dimsung and Htc etc.
And it might be free, but if it's so poor it's useless then what, er, use is it? :-\
Been through that pain with the Nokias n900. An experience so painfull it had to be an Apple device just to find something actually worked, and some sanity.
-
Sony stuff is Android :y
-
I am so anti-crApple, its untrue. Yet I have a stupid gayPhone as buggerall else works reliably, consistently, and in the manor I desire. TBH, Android is the only competitor, but in many ways still several years behind.
Grrr, so I have a stupid Apple.

I once stuck a Nokia 2110 that had the usual intermittent fault of turning off that the repair shop couldn't find into a microwave for 3s. It blew after 1.5s. As did my backside ::)
Still, got a new phone....

The Nokia 6310 had the same fault.....fix was to stick a thin piece of cardboard between the phone and the battery pack...fixed :y
-
Yeah, I could have fixed the contacts. But the 2110 was rubbish, and a brain fryer (I blame that for my memory), so not ideal when you are running up £600+ every month (at heavily discounted rates)
