Title: what to look for on an omega
Post by: batt21 on 18 September 2014, 18:05:47
Hello all. Been out of the fold for a long while. However going to look at a very, on the surface, immaculate 3.2MV6 on Saturday.
Any hints and tips on what to look for???    Many thanks

Just my opinion I've had two members so far. But I would say check front suspension and listen for any noisy different wheel bearings and the sus as they are a heavy car and subsequently heavy on the running gear

Every Omega will need the following changing at some point between 80-120k:

1. Front suspension wishbones.
2. Steering Idler.
3.Track rods.
4. Rear subframe bushes.
5. Shock Absorbers.
6. Exhaust.
7. Heater Bypass Valve.
8. Drivers door lock motor.

And probably Coil packs and Thermostat.

If it's been looked after, there should be evidence of cambelt changes every 40k/4 years whichever is soonest.

Check too for evidence of regular oil and coolant changes. Over 80k and brand new front tyres might suggest wishbone bush issues, so check any receipts and under the car for evidence of replacement.

The above list might look alot, but apply to every Omega, and most item also apply to other cars of a certain age/mileage. I alway expect a second hand car to require a thorough service, tyres and brakes as a minimum.

Otherwise, a well sorted one is a bloody good car, but the cheap ones are cheap for a reason... :y

Thankyou both. Has had same owner for 6yrs with history so evidence should be there for your list. Think the rear bushes did for my previous MV6. Handling became very loose and unpredictable. Yep htr bypass valve. i had that done on my old one. Cambelt is important,,,big time. Was gonna get that done on my old one before i trashed it :(.
