Have a dig about on the forum, the general consensus is 'don't bother with pattern' but it's all about cost vs longevity. I've just bought an aftermarket cat-back for the V6, in decent shape, about 6 months use - for £20. So clearly in that instance can't really go wrong.
If I were able to spend hundreds on pattern I might be temped to squeeze that little more for genuine GM (which are double-skinned and v good quality). Hoping at some point over the next couple of years I'll spot a member on here who can sell me a lightly used genuine Vx one.

Sounds like a plan... :y genuine Vx now £900 plus vat
Just don't tell Tunnie...

The best solution is to keep your genuine front pipe and weld a new flexi in.
The pattern items tend to be noisy and the cats only last a year or two before causing MOT headaches
