Normal procedure. Nothing to worry about. ;)
I was standing behind a Spitfire at startup, about where the photographer is, a month or so back and it did the same. 8)

Yoofs today have no idea what they've missed since jet travel... ::)
Was always entertaining to see the Rolls Royce Darts doing that on start up 8)

Aaeye! "They all do that sir"... :y

Yes, it is a V12 Merlin after all :D :D :D :y :y
Actually that reminds me of my first flight at night in a DC6 in 1962. When the four piston engines started up there was that flash of flame then smoke from the exhaust outlet's. Great fun at the time! ;D ;D :y
When you see Lancaster's starting up on film taken during the war you see their Merlins flare and smoke. How I miss piston engine aircraft!
Jets are so boring. Apart from the initial roar and kick of acceleration on take off there are only the flaps to watch. With the piston aircraft I remember how they would be held on the brakes at the start of the take off run as their engines were run to screaming, then the brakes release, off you went as you watched the props grabbing for air. So exciting as a child, and still now! 8) 8) 8) 8) :-* :y

Watching one of those come to life was the highlight of the last Farnborough airshow I went to. Like a hell's angel's funeral. :D
