Title: proper knee supports e.g. Donjoy
Post by: Varche on 30 September 2014, 20:27:11
My elderly mother has had a knee injury for eight years. made much worse by a recent fall and broken(new joint) hip .

GP says nothing can be done when my Mum demanded, on my insistence , a second opinion. She had already had a hospital consultation after the hip consultant said "we can sort that". That subsequent consultation said nothing we can do. I sort of believe that after eight years of suffering and neglect.

However to give her some stability and support , I think she needs a proper knee support with articulation. Something like the ones Donjoy make e.g. ACL everyday -not the £15 neoprene sleeves that Boots sell.

In my naivety, I assumed there would be "sports clinics/physios who would do an assessment and say this is what you need for Lateral Cruciate Ligament injury and then do some leg diameter measurements and sell her one for a few £100's. I can't find anywhere in North Yorkshire(Scarborough would be good!)

Anyone suffered a similar injury or have experience of how to go it outside the NHS.? Quite a bit of old person inertia to overcome too but I will be there in two weeks time to help with that e.g. taxiing.

After over 20 years of knee problems, the majority made by botched operations,I have yet to find a suitable support and just struggle on as best I can. I don't know about private healthcare, but they can't do more than the NHS unless of course NICE say No. >:(
