Been trying for 3 days now to renew the Car Tax, just been freezing half way though. ::)
At least today I get some sort of feedback, still no Tax though. >:(
'This service is currently unavailable due to unprecedented demand across DVLA's online services.
Please try again later today or use the automated phone service on 0300 1234321.'
Phone service is a waste of time as well. ::)
Does that make me exempt from having no Car Tax today, as cant legally drive to Post Office.

As long as you buy tax today, assuming it's a continuation of course, then yes you can drive to the Post Office as you don't need to display and the vehicle is taxed on the due date :y
I probably wouldn't wish to argue that in court, but given the current state of affairs it could be a chance worth taking :-\
Hurry up though, they shut in an hour :y

Been trying to do the tax for the Milk Float too as it ran out yesterday, but no joy.
Thing is, it is zero cost, gives me nothing to display (anymore) but I still have to go through the motion of applying for it. I bet they will harass me if I dont:
"Dear Mr G, you owe us £0. Please pay immediately if you have not already done so....blah blah"

I know someone that was fined for not taxing or SORNing his free historic road tax ???

That's a proper farce... Surely it should be exempt forever, especially as you a) don't need a tax disc and b) could never pay for one if you did :-\
Mind you, if you Sorned it, I bet you'd get tugged before you hit the M3 ::)

The only difference the Historic Tax made was that you didn't have to pay anything. You still had to apply for a disc(with valid insurance and MOT) or SORN.
The paperwork always made that very clear!

I know, Gary knew & you know ..... but the point is he wasn't denying the Govt any cash by not taxing it & got fined for it .......... a good money making excercise
