Hi all,
The Skoda has developed a cold starting issue which is getting progressively worse as the weather deteriorates. It starts fine after the 1st start of the day but its that 1st start >>> excessive cranking, then holding ya breath as it does start due to a cloud of smoke behind thats worthy of being a Bond gadget. ??? ??? ???
I'm thinking heater plugs (never been changed in 9 years) so am I right in -
Soaking the little mites in Plusgas over night, then running the engine warm and attempting removal????

May be worth checking first if power is getting to the plugs,not unknown for the module to fail,does glow light illuminate at all when ignition on ?

Do you leave the ignition on until the glow plug light has gone off before cranking?
If you do, does the light come back on after its started? .... Not sure on skodas, but on some manu's they light will come back on to indicate a fault.
Before trying to change them.....its worth getting a meter on them, set to ohms. One terminal on engine block....other on electrical connection to the glowplug....open circuit, its fubared :y
If they check ok....its another issue..... :-\

Yeah I leave it till the light goes out & the relay clicks, I'm gonna find me multimeter for the weekend & check em out. The light doesn't come back on after starting though and there are no errors when I plug my diagnostic in.

Soak em like you say. Hot engine just an invite to injury in my book.
Work them back and forward rather than just trying to undo them. Loosens the carbon.
vcds should show a faulty glow plug.

Hot engine is about your only option as many glow plugs have a gas tight seal.....for obvious reasons and this impacts the ability of plus gas to do its work

Well, managed to test the heater plugs today, getting current through the connectors, but guess how many plugs are working???????????????? :o :o :o :o

Motor factors in the mornin it is then!!!

:) :) :) :) :) :) All sorted, a (smokey trip ::) when it eventually started) to motor factors, 6 new Bosch Glow Plugs, 1 hour to change em & everythings groovy again. 8) 8) 8) 8)
