Seem to be far too hard compound :-\ Any recommendations for a softer low noise set ?

Simple... Drive faster ;) ;D

Directional tyres, hence the noise. Plus Chinese rubber is never quiet.

My new Winter tyres do seem to have a bit of a high pitch hum at around 45mph, nothing too bad, they are rated at 71db which seems pretty average............ :y

Emd, imo goodyear hydragrips are well suited to Uk weather for all seasons except snowy/icy surface but they are noisy too :-\

Due to a puncture one Easter Saturday I was forced to accept a pair of Maxis for the font of my old Elite.
I can honestly say they were the nosisest tyre I have ever driven on and after less than 2k I got them removed and replaced witha set of Pirelli P Zero,s.
Maxis imho are horrible and whilst the tread pattern looks very "cool" I would never ever have them fitted again ....even if it ment missing a few days away over Easter

Yep , as soon as they wear down ill fit something similar like the Pirelli .. With tyres its hit and miss although i noticed they have a noise rating included :y
Trouble is , once tyres are bought thats it .. cant take them back if they are noisier than first thought :(
Did you notice a difference in sound when you fitted the Pirelli's Amba ?

Are these the correct tyres on the front 235/45 ZR17 ???

235/45/17 with a speed rating of Z, W or Y and a load index of 93 or higher is the official spec for 17" rims fitted to Omegas.

Cant remember what tyres i had on the elite but they were very quiet , Kumo or something ::) Im finding tyre choice a minefield .. ::) Dont seem to be much difference between high/low price tyres when it comes to db rating :-\
