Title: Advise re. brothers car please
Post by: Crazycarzowner on 11 October 2014, 21:27:20
My brothers 2000 plate mondeo 1.8 petrol clutch is apparently on its last legs  ::) ::) ::) ::)

On a scale of 1 - 10 whats the difficulty level for replacing one??? Done a Focus & that was relatively easy but I hear the subframe has to be dropped on a Mundeo???

I believe sub frame bolt is put in upside down and can be a pig to remove.....when putting back together put bolt back the other way up and I think that the sub frame must be realigned with a special tool....as stated i think it is expensive to replace as is the jaguar bodied Mondeo... :'( :'(

Are we talking driveway repair or garage facility's?

The sub frame does have to come off along will the bits attached to it such a steering rack, wishbones and anti roll bar links.

It is time consuming so, whether its worth it on a 14 yr old car..

The bolt the wrong way relate to the ns wishbone, which if your changing on its own becomes difficult because it hits the bottom of the gearbox first. If your dropping the subframe, it makes no difference.

Its potentially gonna be done in my newly build garage,  ::) think its gonna be a PITA, got time enough to do it and facilities now but it just puts my other projects back somewhat (i.e. Discovery). Annoying thing is its a bloomin good car with only about 70 odd on the clock! Just a numpty driver!!!   >:( >:( ::) ::)

One of the last Mk 2's
I thought they had tweaked the design so that the subframe could be left alone... one of the gripes about the original Mundeo, especially when compared with the simplicity of a Sierra clutch change  :-\

Subframe out on all mondeo's for gearbox access
