Iv just had VM 152 Mb broadband installed along with their phoneline coz it was cheaper to take it as a bundle than individually, anyhoo the line went 'live' and was 'live' for just over an hour when the phone rings..... it was only the call centre from Calcutta to say I have a virus on my computer.... 'oh no' says I..... I asked which 1...? how many do you have....? about 6..... all of them was the reply.... what do I do now says me..... I need to install something on your computer to sort out the virus.. at this point I burst his bubble - Iv never been sworn at in Punjabi before...
Oh how I laughed...

I had one of them at work the other day. He started by saying I had a virus on our computer and that he needed access to it to fix the virus, to which I replied ill put you through to the i.t department. After a miniute of keeping him on hold, I then said Devon and Cornwall police i.t department how can I help you?
Ive never had a call centre hang up on me before ;D ;D
Try it its fun :y

I had a similar call, I told him I had no computers, and insisted on it, he told me I was a liar and hung up, never had a call since........... :D :D

We had a call from VM after our replacement router was delivered.
The initial call to diagnose the fault was genuine as we rang them, and they do install software on your PC to take control of the lap top, diagnosed the speeds and fault and agreed to send the router. Etc.
Whilst we didn't and would never allow an incoming call to to take any personal info, I am certain our call was genuine. Poorly structured and badly implemented with a presumptious diagnosis. But defo genuine. :)

I once had Virgin ask me to make sure my laptop was turned on so she could "Send a signal to reboot it".. ::)

My Mum had one of these calls recently. Seems like it's doing the rounds at the moment! >:(

We had a call saying they were from VM at 8.45 pm ... >:( Completely bogus and bloke could not speak english very well or understand apart from the f/off bit ;D

As a BT customer, and I think that way be why, I am receiving numerous emails telling me there is a problem with my account/card details/paying my last bill, etc, etc, everyone a potential scam. All sent on to BT who are very aware of theseand are working to stop them apparently.
Bloody nuisance though as it takes time to delete them! ::) ::) :P :P
The telephone scammers seem to be giving me a rest at the moment after I told one that I worked alongside Kent Police and they were being investigated for attempted fraud! It all went quiet after that! ;D ;D ;D ;)

I don't know if my story is on the same lines. vm are my provider. last week when shutting down "do not turn off installing updates" 94 updates. it took hours & when it eventually finished & started to configure, it got as far as 98% & told me there been an error & it started reverting everything. when eventually all was done a different security setup had been installed & also a different browser. I eventually rang webroot who asked my permission to take my control of my computer. I had to type in the taskbar a phrase + numbers. it was clever how he took control, he managed to put everything right.

And you are happy with all that?
Are you sure you have not been scammed already and your computer is now open to various acts of fraud. I would urgently revert to your computer settings prior to this episode, and change all your passwords for any bank accounts, cards, etc. do not trust what has happened as being above board. Contact your internet provider (VM)and consult with them over what has happened and check they know about it or not!
Are you sure you spoke to Webroot and not a scammer? Why should that company enter your system to put things right?

People do fall for these. Frequently.

I just answer the phone and say Ministry of defence dept H.... It's funny how they hang up so quickly... 😈😈😈
-
Asking the faulty windows brigade if they could reputty the fronts or fit double glazing tends to tie em in a knot.

Much like the Nigerian princes sneaking money out of a hostile country, if one person jn a thousand falls for it, theyve made their earnings for the month...

Technical Support do tend to use remote access to 'fix' PC problems. It's much quicker and more efficient than repeatedly telling the numpty on the end of the phone where the Start Button is. ::)
Obviously, make sure they are genuine.

VM do make calls at that time, and their is no doubt that their grasp of the Queens chosen leaves a fair bit to be desired.
However, they generally only go that far once you have invoked a leaving process due to a persistent fault in order to get you back.
