Title: The Duster...
Post by: cam2502 on 19 October 2014, 12:23:40
*puts flak jacket on and prepares...*......

Swmbo is considering a Dacia Duster. It's the "laureate " top of the range model which gives you alloys, remote locking, touch screen sat nav, metallic paint, air con and one or two other bits and bobs all for a smidgen over 15K.
The boot space is really quite impressive and that's one of the main reasons she's going for it, plenty room for the dog/pram/shopping.

We test drove a kia sportage the other day, was ok, but boot space wasnt as big, and it was the K2 model, the. Mid-range one, which had a very hefty price IMO of just over £21K !

I must admit I quite like the look of the duster and the reviews I've read online were a lot more favourable than I was expecting.

So....thoughts? Good /bad points? Any info appreciated.  :y

Sounds ok, Cam, but remember you can pick up a bade model zafira for £11K anywhere, and if it's just to be used as a workhorse.......

Last years Renault made in Romania .. what could go wrong? ;)

Having said that - I think they're based on the Renault/Nissan common platform so the mechanicals should be pretty tried & tested and easy to come by, and a fella at work has nothing bad to say about them.  Possibly because his Dad works in the factory, so he may be biased, but ;D

Seen a few around - not the pinnacle of design but nor are they ugly as a C3 Cactus sin.. generally inoffensive, rather like an Omega ;)

My uncle is  pretty pleased with his that he's had for about 2 years.
Mechanically it's long established Renault 4x4 running gear with the latest engines. Whether that's a good thing depends on your point of view.
The base models are everywhere in rural France as it's a typically French car; a straightforward workhorse that is unpretentious and good value.
I wouldn't bother with the top of the range, as the leather looks cheap and nasty and feels worse.

It is still quite a small car though, five adults is a bit of a squeeze.

Cheers guys :y, were actually just back in from seeing another car... The ssangyong Korando.
Gotta say I like it a LOT more than the duster. Swmbo taking it out a test drive tomorrow . Just "feels" a better car. And I reckon it looks better to.
Any thoughts on these cars?

The Korando's spec is quite amazing for the price. Hopefully she likes the drive.  :)
