Post by: Anthony in Madrid on 03 November 2014, 17:54:31
Calling the anoraks...
Is the 3.2 Faster than an MV6???
If so, how so?
What really are the differences?
If you have experience with both...Which one was better for you?
Would you share opinions please
Curious to know.
Cheers
Ant

Cant comment on the 3.2/mv6 comparison but can on a MFL 2.5 to a FL 3.2 both autos.

Prefer the dash layout from mfl to fl and the overal feel of the switches and fittings

3.2  is a real beast and really can shift when asked to and gets there pretty quickly.Nice comfy ride even in Elite form and overal very pleased with car

Soft spot for the old 2.5 though and whilst it had 3.0 cams etc fitted and was no slouce it is no measure on the 3.2.

Even if I was offered considerably more than I paid for current car wouldnt part with it as a super car even accepting the costly fule bills given I drive 100 + miles most days, but wouldnt convert to lpg due to boot space needed

The engine is the same no matter what spec the car is.

So all 3.2s are the same speed, all 3.0l are the same speed, and all 2.6 are the same speed. MV6s available with all those engines.

In order of acceleration, from fastest to slowest, is 3.0, 3.2, 2.5, 2.6, 2.2, 2.0. That's real world, not the guff in booklets.

Why do the 3.0 and 2.5 have better acceleration than the 3.2 and 2.6 ?  :-\

Cabled Vs 'Fly by wire' throttles?  ???  :-\

Emission restrictions on the 2.6/3.2. The biggest being a lower CR in order to reduce NO, to save fitting EGR valves.

Im sure someone said black ones are faster.
They are obviously faster than the gay coloured ones. But sleek silver is clearly the best...

A 3.2 is significantly quicker than a 3.0.  Torque through the rev range is much better.  Both variants love 4k+ rev's.  The 3.2 is much better below that.

Never driven a 2.6, so can't comment.

2.5's are very different to a 3.0 in terms of power, and it's usability.

IMHO the 3.2 is the one to have.

Not in my experience, having driven a bucketload. The lowered CR impacts the 3.2 too much  :'(

I've had two 2002 2.6 CDX, one 2000 2.5 Elite, and now a 2003 3.2 MV6

The 2.5 Elite was a pig, like driving a submarine, but smooth etc

My 3.2 MV6 faster than the others, but crude . . .

So late 2.6 CDX wins for me . . . . . but depends on what you want/like  :-\
