Very nice competitively priced too not hang about long at that price go for it your only young twice
-
:y :y :y :y :y
-
Looks a steal at that price, very close inspection required though!
-
If you were to buy that it would take YEARS to wipe the smile off your face!
Oh, and how long would you keep your licence for - I defy you to keep to legal speeds....
Ron.
-
IIRC, they are slower than the Omegas...
-
Very nice example of a Jag that :y I think the straight 6 was a lot slower than the v8 3.2 IIRC. Straight 6 in the region of 220bhp & 8.8 to 60mph. The v8 242bhp & 8,0 to 60mph.
There's a very informative post to anyone wanting to buy one of these on pistonheads I won't post it on here but here's the link http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=195961

Can't see the link, but I know the AJ16-the last of the straight sixes as fitted to my 3.2 XJ is considered to be the "unbreakable"engine.V8s more powerful and supposedly more frugal, but certainly a lot more troublesome/finicky at least the early ones with Nicasil lined bores and poor timing chain tensioners.Straight six XJ not as fast as Omega nor quite as economical-at least in 3.2 guise also slightly heavier than Omega but they are damn nice cars!

Have recently found that these suffer from bore wash but maybe the early model ones only :-\ Non-Nikasil lined :-\
-
I've got a 4.0 V8 S-Type, it was pennies and I love it but the forums have nothing on OOF :-X

Never again.

From what i can fathom its the non-Nikasil lined bores that suffer the bore wash :-\ I guess most non-Nikasil lined ones have been weighed in now ???

Emd, have you seen me link I posted? It comments on the engine problem.

Sorry missed that jason , i will have a look :y
Very good reading and not all bad news either , apart from the £200 a corner for tyres ::) Guess these can be bought cheaper anyway . Seems to be a lot of car for the money , maybe the straight 6 would be even more suitable .
So buy buying a car after 1st January 2000 your car has avoided the high sulphur fuel that contributed to bore wear of the Nikasil lined bores :y

Ther's also this one too

Excellent , thanks for that jason :y No issues with the inline 6 .. something to remember when on the look out ;)

I've had 4 XJ's in the past, including both V8 & straight 6, personally I liked the in line more than the V8. Not as much power, but more reliable and I think smoother - my old N '96 plate had 245k when I sold it & if its not been wrapped up or neglected I would expect it still to be running. Simple servicing goes a long way, whereas the V8 was worse than a high maintenance girlfriend :D :D
Want want want......... ;D ;D ;D ;D
Oh and DON'T GET A MANUAL!!!!!! worse think I ever did get a manual one, at the end of a long journey me left leg ached like hell, felt like I'd had a 2 hour gym session. Horrible nasty clutch, hated it, bloomin quick, but Eugh!!!!

Bit of a hoot, those ones. Chocolate autobox aside. A nice noise when booting, assuming you can get traction. Apparently, so I've heard ;D
Brakes bloody expensive, and snap from springs faster than Omegas snap rears. And plagued with electrical gremlins. But I'd consider one if it wasn't for the fragile gearbox.
How's it going for you?

And I think those engines don't convert too well anyway, due to valve seats.

I thought Mr Emd had his sights set on Mr Bromide's Omega. :)

The later 6 speed boxes on the 4.2 are the bad ones so I've been reading and the 4.0 ones just need the gearbox oil and filters replacing just like the Omega. I've just replaced the cam cover gaskets (this is sounding familiar ;D) plus the spark plugs which are bloody expensive but wont need replacing for another 80,000 miles. The only other thing i'm considering is an exhaust that I can hear the V8 because the standard one is too quiet. Fuel economy is a smidge less than a 3.2 elite so not too bad oh and genuine spares aren't too bad but I do work for a place that sells them ::) The worse thing about them is the forums :'(
