Title: LPG 57.9p, thats more like it.
Post by: zirk on 11 November 2014, 17:19:23
Heading back from Epsom today, it was a toss up of bollok round the M25 on petrol due to a near empty tank of LPG or head through London and grap some Gas, cause Im a sad bastard the latter one won, drove to a known good Shell Garage that normally sells Lpg at a resonable price in Forest Hill, only to fing it been shut down and opened as a BP, bollards I thought, but the noticed they were selling the stuff at 57.9p, Bonus. Downside is its only taken me 3 hours to get back.  >:(

Bet you're glad you're not buying diesel at suvven prices... ::)

It probably would have taken another hour if you'd stuck with the M25 :D

If the price of diesel and petrol had dropped in line with the price of crude oil, we would be looking at prices near the £1 per litre mark.  ::)

A common misconception young Tigger. Have a look at the breakdown of where the money you spend on fuel goes.......tax!
A retailer was on the telly the other day trying to explain why fuel had only gone down by 20% when oil had dipped by 40%. His reply was that the part the retailer takes in profit (a pittance btw) had gone down by 46% but the tax take by only a very small amount. Retailers are also not responsible for the cost of transporting the fuel, perhaps we should start shouting at the tanker owners, their fuel costs must have refuced by quite a bit.

67.9p here, and that's the cheapest around.

I guess I should be grateful that the retards at BP still sell it, as they have told us the pumps are being ripped out a few weeks ago.

Actually forgot to mention, normally says Autogas on the pump, this did say Flo Gas, which Ive never seen before, hopefully a start of something new maybe a price war?, did need some home Butane Gas last week for the Garage Heating, Calor gas blue bottle (15kg) was 39.99, Flo Gas beige bottle (12.5kg) 30.95. Hmm. :-\

Its just the brand of their supplier. Shell seem to be moving over to Calor, Total seem to use Flo-gas, indies use whatever they can get I suspect!

So thinking out load now, if Im paying 40 notes for 15kg of Calor Butane, which isn't much different to 15 litres of the stuff, so about 2.60 a litre, whats to stop me from creating some clever pipeworks and fill up and use Lpg for my ocasional heating.

LPG road fuel is mostly propane, although they do mix a little butane into road LPG. Propane has a much higher vapour pressure, so if your cylinder and appliance aren't designed for it, I'll see you shortly following your re-entry. ;)

. and it's about 0.5kg/l, so you're getting twice as much as you think in the cylinder.

Not a big enough margin to be worth messing about.

you can buy handpumps to transfer the stuff from tank to tank,! :yjust as you say need couple of fittings and flexi pipe !

Pronane, even better then, the Red Calor Gas Bottles are Propane.  :y

Ok, got that wrong then, so just over half capacity, so about 1.34 per litre compared to LPG at 60p.  ;)

Similar to Petrol vs LPG prices, so surely enough margin to mess about with, bearing in mind aome people go to the trouble of getting there Cars modified for the same margins at a much higher midification cost.  ;)

TBH, was thinking the same  :D but dare say there are some intrinsically safe motors out there that would do the job, or some other type of no spark, no burn out motors.
