Title: Focus
Post by: BazaJT on 13 November 2014, 20:59:10
Yet another mild restyle has been done on Fords Focus,I believe the Mondeo is receiving the same sort of restyle too.Whether this will help sales of the Mondeo round here or not will remain to be seen. The Insignia far and away outsells the Mondeo in this neck of the woods.Ford customers appear to prefer going the Focus route rather than  buying the Mondeo.

I think it's down to size.  The Focus is pretty much the same size as the original Mondeo.  A family of 4 doesn't require the 'larger' car anymore as they fit comfortably in the small family hatchback.

The Insignia is a hateful pile of shite!  ;D

Even the last rendition of the Focus, its still a small car. Not seen this new set of tweaks other than an ad on the telly, but suspect a mild styling/interior change, so no drastic shell differences? Obviously the Focus is getting bigger - my old one had less room in both the cabin (excluding headroom that was very good (no sunroof)) and the boot than the Rover 25 I had at the same time (which had a sunroof). Not just a bit smaller. Massively smaller. Even the newer ones - a colleague has one of those 1l turbo ones from last year - are small. I haven't got the 25 any more to directly compare, but I'd say there isn't much in it now.

Munano has always been a medium/large car. Same colleague had a couple of Mundanos before his current Focus, and will confirm that you can't get buggerall in the boot, and 4 adults in the Focus is "cozy"

Everybody is downsizing car sizes, as the do-gooders are trying to make it socially unacceptable to own big cars. Before making it sociall unexceptable to own cars.

Be fair...... For all it's faults it's a bit of a looker and babe magnet. :)

It has its good points.  I had no issues (running out of brakes aside) driving from Brakkers to near the France/Spanish border a couple of years ago, and that was just after my back was completely arsesoled by that bitch in her Passat. It was a surprisingly good mile cruncher, and comfortable with it. Plus it was only the 130bhp model :o

Its downsides were that I don't think its a particularly attractive car, the boot is far smaller than it looks, and does not have any height in in (and the suspension makes the floor unusable), rearward visibility on the hatchbacks is poor and headroom for rear passangers is not great (this was a basic model, no sunroof).

Practically, they're quite a disappointment after a Vectra C, although the Vectra does also suffer from suspension intrusion... or more specifically, there's a stupidly shaped beam across the boot behind the back seat :-\

You know what, I think the Insignia is a miles better car than the Vectra-C. Admittedly the Vectra has more room. A 4hr stint in a DTI one was enough to make me hate them for life (to think I nearly bought one :o).  A colleague's 3.2 GSi was fantastic fun, but an absolute back breaker.

Nah, give me an Insignia over a crappy Vectra-C any day of the week.  Not that I particularly want an Insignia.

Are you blind,TB?

The Insignia is offensively ugly........much like myself. ;) ;D

I've not seen the interior so I don't know what if any changes have been made there. The rear lights are reshaped the hatchback altered slightly and the grille/nose too.

The Mk1 Focus was small, the latest Mk's are massive in comparison.  Check online, or go and see one.  They are huge.  Much the same as the Astra.  The G  is much smaller than the J.

Rear suspension on the Vectra C was similar to the Cavalier (or Vectra B)... Archaic and should have been sorted.

Insignia is pig ugly, drives like a dog, seats (in the SRi model at least) are excruciatingly painful..... shit economy figures and expensive to buy.

Vauxhall do not know their arse from their elbow at the moment.

Honestly, and I mean HONESTLY, what car would you buy in the current line-up from Vauxhall?

I quite like the look of the Astra GTC...  Have no need for one ofcourse, but wouldn't kick it off the drive ::)

Consider the Honda Accord, somewhere between a Mig and an Astra in size, but far better looking.............. :y :y

Oh, don't worry, I have sadly. That's how I know they have all the same 'orrid handling traits of the earlier ones. And that's why I said that I reckon the newer ones are around the same size as my old 25, rather than being so much smaller (like the Mk1).

As to Astra's, I reckon the H is smaller than the G  :-\. The J is a bit bigger than the H. I've not been in a G and a J one after the other to compare those 2  :'(

Exactly. Though I would argue that's always been the case, with the exception of one or 2 little gems that I have liked. Omega being one.

Had my fill of Hondas for a while I'm afraid...  ...and not had owned one for 15yrs ;D.  That Civic I had as a hire car reminded me of why not to buy a Honda now.

To be fair, the Renault is built at the Vauxhall plant in Luton :P
